Located in the city’s core (811 1 St SW), Jazz lovers may remember the venue as Piq-Niq/Beat-Niq, which became known as one of the hottest jazz clubs in Canada. And while new owners Alanna Martineau and Shawna McGovern-Burke may have changed the name, the true essence of what made Beat-Niq special has been preserved.
The space consists of two levels – street level is an intimate dining room labeled the bistro. The space is perfect for those important business lunches, but also an ideal spot for a special night out. The lower level, known as the Cellar, is the live music space where local talent and musical legends belt out tunes.
When it comes to the food, you are bound to be impressed. Their chef has developed a fantastic French-inspired menu, utilizing ingredients from local, organic producers. We suggest trying their Fresh Daily Pâté served with
Pickled Beet, Brassica Cranberry Mustard, Cornichon, or the Niçoise Salad with
Seared Ahi Tuna, Quail Egg, Olive Tapenade, and a Lemon & Olive Emulsion.
The wine list is impressive, offering a wide variety of quality wines, many of which are organically produced. They also wanted to create an environment that makes learning about and discovering wine approachable, which is ideal for a great night out with your friends or colleagues.
Looking for the perfect night out? Head down for a dinner with friends, where we are sure you will be toasting over a few bottles of wine. After dinner, head downstairs for dessert and a night full of music (they recently renovated the entire space to update the acoustics of the room). We suggest indulging in the Fallentimber Meadery Crème Brulée.
