You couldn't ask for a better location. Situated on Prince's Island, the River Cafe is known as one of Calgary's best summertime spots for traditional Canadian-style dining and an impressive beverage menu

For YPs looking to enjoy a meal and feel as if they have left the hustle and bustle of the city without the drive, the River Cafe is just the place. It’s unique location on Prince’s Island requires diners to stroll through the park in order to get to the restaurant where it is nestled amongst the trees and park greens. For the last 20 years it has been a destination spot for local foodies and visitors alike.

The restaurant itself embodies rustic Canadiana charm reminiscent of a charming fishing lodge. The room boasts a fieldstone fireplace, open kitchen with an oven and grill that are fueled by orchard wood, and a bar made from a real boat. Panoramic windows allow diners to enjoy the view of the park and the city lights. During summer months, there is a large outdoor terrace overlooking the lagoon accented by regional greenery.

The location may be unique and the view fantastic, but it is without a doubt the food that keeps people coming back time and again. Their style of cuisine is rooted in honouring simple, quality ingredients and they are dedicated to sourcing the best tasting local ingredients that are in season. They regularly connect directly with growers and producers at their farms, gardens and ranches.

Most of what they use in each dish has been made in-house. They butcher, brine, cure and smoke a high percentage of their meat, while their pastry chef produces all breads and desserts in-house. They also grow an edible garden at the restaurant, producing many herbs, berries and edible flowers that are used to help flavour many of their dishes They also boast an amazing wine list that has been carefully crafted to pair perfectly with the menu.

Open for lunch and dinner service, it is a great spot for anyone looking for something a little different and special. Start with oysters and move on to the Olson’s high country bison striploin.

Love brunch? They have a fantastic weekend brunch from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We suggest the confit trout and smoked chevre quiche, which you may want to wash down with a fresh OJ mimosa.

Planning on celebrating a special occasion with friends or your next corporate event with colleagues? They offer private or semi-private parties, and catering options.

Check out their website to find out about their upcoming events or to book your next event.
