Must Try: Museum Tavern

Museum Tavern may derive its name from its view – it's across the street from the ROM – but don't think this a restaurant of relics. While its menu is based on classic American bistro-style dishes – think baby back ribs and chicken wings – Museum Tavern's execution is nothing but new school

Museum Tavern may derive its name from its view – it’s across the street from the ROM – but don’t think this a restaurant of relics. While its menu is based on classic American bistro-style dishes – think baby back ribs and chicken wings – Museum Tavern’s execution is nothing but new school.

The dark woods and leathers Toronto’s diners are so enamoured with play in big at Museum Tavern, creating an old world vibe with modern day sensibilities. It’s not so much tavern as it is brasserie, which means first dates through to celebratory dinners are fair game.

The menu is executed by Executive Chef Stephen Gouzopoulos, and sees plates like a 12oz AAA dry aged rib steak with sauteed mushrooms and shallots and potato rosti alongside duck buns with hoisin and elk sliders with double smoked bacon. It’s classic comfort, only elevated.

As for you imbibers out there, the house cocktails list is old fashioned excellence. From an apricot bourbon sour to the new Caesar aptly dubbed the Prime Minister, palates won’t go wanting.

Museum Tavern just might become a more alluring spot than the ROM itself, so get in there now before it becomes a tourist haven.
