Must Try: Grand Electric

In-the-know Mexican food-loving young professionals can’t get enough of Parkdale’s Grand Electric and its famous tacos. The hot spot is the brainchild of former Black Hoof Chef de Cuisine Colin Tooke and front-of-house Manager Ian McGrenaghan, who quietly opened up shop in November.

The small space blasts loud music and the bar prides itself in its selection of bourbon, as well as several dark craft beers. For the budget-conscious YP, a meal at Grand Electric won’t break the bank. A blackboard menu highlights a selection of tacos at $3.50 each, so you may as well arrive hungry and try them all. Tacos include the Baja Fish Taco, Pork Belly al Pastor, Spicy Arbol Chicken and the Beef Cheek. A true test of a Mexican restaurant, the guacamole is fresh and generous with lime and the chips were crisp and fresh with just the right amount of seasoning. Other favourite dishes include the Tuna Ceviche and an infamous and unmatched Key Lime Pie for dessert.

If you are in a rush and looking to grab a quick bite, this may not be the place for you as lines routinely form down the street and committed customers are known to wait one to three hours for a table. It is open six nights per week, Wednesday to Monday (closed on Tuesday, so that they may ‘get drunk’ as the answering machine states), 6pm until late.
