Must Try: Catch Restaurant

When you’re a restaurateur, going sustainable is less a trend now than it is a dogma that must be obliged. Not that we’re complaining; if anything, we think this is a fantastic direction most new establishments are feeding into. No pun intended. So, with the opening of Catch on St. Clair West, we applaud the owners of The Rushton on their new seafood restaurant’s commitment to sustainable, fresh, and ethical food.

Catch restaurant in Toronto sources its seafood from OceanWise certified suppliers. OceanWise is the Vancouver Aquarium’s program that essentially gives a seal of approval to fisheries that have ethical and sustainable practices. This means that all of the seafood they serve has been fished to the highest of standards.

Exposed brick walls, plush leather seating, and octagonal detailing on the ceiling are all beautiful accoutrements to the space. But what really stands out here is the level of care put into all the dishes coming from the kitchen – ran by Maritimer Nigel Finley.

Oysters and mussels are perfect ways to start your dining experience at Catch. But where the creativity really plays a part is in the carefully thought out mains. Sea breem stuffed with blue crab and preserved lemon and garlic chips; saffron and lobster in a beautiful bouillabaisse; and espresso marinated flank steak are all superb selections.

Catch’s wine list is varied and worldly, and runs the gamut from affordable to baller. It’s a fantastic place for dates, dinners with friends, and just some vino and oyster love. It opened just a few weeks ago, but has already engulfed the love of foodies citywide. Check it out the next time you’re craving some under-the-sea divinity, or find yourself markedly outside the downtown core. Catch is hook, line and sinker, sustainable-style.
