Must Attend: Welcome to Foodie Fight Club

Normally we wouldn’t get too excited about fighting in public but this was just too good to pass up. Commonwealth is already a popular place to hit for bourbon and hip-hop, but this nightspot just got a little bit cooler this month with Native Tongues Taqueria moving in. This means late-night tacos will be available to the masses every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, and on May 20th you’re invited out to help celebrate the grand opening.

The bar and taqueria are collaborating on a totally off-the-wall party that’s going to get weird and wild when the dance floor is cleared to make room for plenty of tacos and chokeholds. Several rowdy Calgary Stampede wrestlers will duke it out against a few loco luchadores for the championship title in a stadium-sized ring while everyone is treated to a ridiculous spectacle of capes, shiny tights, trash talking and some insane off-the-ropes maneuvers that would make La Capital proud. Between matches, DJ Disoriental will be spinning hip-hop classics while you get your fill of some first-rate street party food. This is Mickey Rourke’s wrestler, your favourite Tribe Called Quest from the 90s, and a taco party all rolled into one delicious evening.

If you happened to be in town during Christmas last year then you might have been privy to the very first sensational Taco Or No Taco pop up party thrown by Native Tongue’s chef and owner, Cody Willis, at the Royal Canadian Legion downtown. In the weeks leading up to the holiday event, a certain wrestler named Caballo de Misterioso was seen cavorting around town in his leopard tights and sexy blue mask promoting what would turn out to be a smash success that sold out well in advance. Don’t miss out on tickets this time; snap them up here or visit Vine Arts Wine and Spirits on 1st Street SW.
