Must Attend The Really Really Long Table Dinner

City Palate is celebrating their 20th year in Calgary this year. They’re known for doing a great job of promoting local food culture with interesting tidbits on seasonal foods to incorporate into your meal plans, for recommendations on great places to dine, products to try, and upcoming foodie events that are worth knowing about. To celebrate their last 20 years in town, the Palate is organizing 20 events between July 2013 and June 2014. To date, there have been events like the Pig & Pinot festival at Hotel Arts and The Food Truck Flock, which set up shop behind Metrovino.

On September 16th, the Palate will be putting on their 9th event for the year. There will be 240 people sitting down to a legendary feast at a dinner table that will run along 8th Avenue. Guests will dine on five delicious courses, each served by some of the finest restaurants in Calgary. Blink, Catch, Charcut , Divino, Teatro, The Belvedere and the Trib Steakhouse are restaurants that all sit along on Stephen Avenue, many which are considered to be pillars of the foodie community in Calgary. For those of you are who interested in attending the dinner, we thought it best to do a quick review of why we love these restaurants:

Blink: This trendy spot has set up shop in Calgary’s historic saddlery. The focus here is on slow food and the wine list is all about promoting smaller, family-run wineries throughout North America and Europe. Just having a look at their menu can make your mouth water.  Be sure to try the Carpaccio!

Catch & the Oyster Bar: This is the go-to restaurant when you’re in the mood for seafood. Catch is one of the best places to stop after work on a Friday to enjoy a cold Steamwhistle beer and a few fresh oysters.

Charcut: Probably best known for some of their dishes that come straight from the custom-built rotisserie. Charcut also has a fantastic selection of craft beers on hand and if you stay for dessert, try the Caramelized Banana and Chocolate Torte that comes with Peanut Butter Gelato and Peanut Caramel Sauce.

Divino: It’s all about the ambiance here. This cozy little restaurant takes its inspiration from New York bistros and serves a lovely selection of wine and cheese. This is the best place to stop for a late dinner or snack after catching a show at the EPCOR centre.

Teatro: Situated in the historic Dominion Bank building in Calgary’s theatre district, this is probably one of the most romantic spots in town for a dinner. The cuisine here is described as “Contemporary Mediterranean” and the food presentation is always impressive.

Belvedere: The Belvedere has a mile-long list of accolades. They are continuously rated one of the best restaurants in Canada and they have received the ‘Award of Excellence’ from Wine Spectator. For something that you wouldn’t try everyday, order the Siberian Sturgeon Caviar or their Tempura Battered Frog Legs.

The Trib: When you’re in the mood for a steak, look no further. Grab a booth or pull up a seat at the bar to enjoy a Butter Brushed New York Strip Loin of top grade Angus beef. Order one of their many hearty red wines to compliment your meal.

If you are interested in joining the Really Long Dinner Table event, the evening runs from 5pm to 9pm and tickets are $175 per person. Tickets can be purchased here. All proceeds from the dinner are going to the Red Cross Flood Relief. Due to the set menu, the hosts are unable to accommodate food allergies. Hotel Arts is offering a discount rate on rooms this evening for people wishing to spend the night downtown. For $205 you can spend the night at Hotel Arts and receive a $100 voucher towards the Yellow Door Bistro and Raw Bar.
