Must Attend: Old Montreal’s 7th Annual Happening Gourmand

Looking to score a fantastic deal and meal at some of Old Montreal’s most beloved spots? Well now is the perfect time, with the 7th Annual Happening Gourmand put on by our dear friends The Antonopoulos Group now underway.

If you aren’t familiar with the concept, here’s how it goes: From now until February 2, eight restaurants scattered throughout Old Montreal prepare special lunch and dinner menus at great rates so you can explore Old Port’s gems for a fraction of the price. Simple and notable.

This year’s participating restaurants include newcomer Kyo Bar Japonais, an Izakaya of delicious proportions, BEVO Bar + Pizzeria, offering fine Italian cooking, original cocktails and a fresh ambiance nightly, Modavie, where live, local bands take the stage at this jazz bar and bistro, Méchant Boeuf, known for their AAA Angus beef, a delicious raw bar and artisanal cocktails, Suite 701, offering Quebec-sourced modern brasserie cuisine, Taverne Gaspar, full of soulful staples and original cocktails, Verses Restaurant, offering French-inspired and market-fresh plates, and Vieux-Port Steakhouse, where you can find quality cuts that have been cooked to perfection for almost three decades.

Now here’s the part where you go hooray and start making reservations. Menus are priced at $15 for lunch ($22 value), while $21, $25 and $29 table d’hôtes will be available for dinner ($30, $36 and $42 values, respectively). A steal? Yes, indeed!

“We’re focusing on what we do best,” says Yves Lowe, Executive Chef at Suite 701. “The Happening gives us Carte Blanche to run wild with the season’s best products.” Dining options run the gamut from wholesome comfort food to innovative Italian, Japanese and contemporary French dishes. There’s something for every taste.

If you are looking for a getaway in the city and want a little break from home, paired with the Happening are some fantastic packages including four boutique hotel offers at Le Place d’Armes Hôtel & Suites, Hôtel Nelligan, Le Petit Hôtel and l’Auberge du Vieux-Port. Each includes a one-night stay and a three-course dinner for two at a participating restaurant.  Happening Gourmand has also once again partnered with Igloofest; with the purchase of a Happening Gourmand menu, clients receive $5 off tickets to the year’s biggest snow-draped party ($15 instead of $20).

All package details and Happening menus can be found here.
