Must Attend: 12th Annual SNAP Gala

We’re so excited that next week is the opening evening and auction for the eagerly anticipated SNAP! Gala, taking place on Thursday, March 7, 2013. Mark your calendars and be sure to come out for an evening of great talent, people and a good cause.

Young professionals, it’s the perfect evening of photography, philanthropy and fabulous hors d’oeuvres, benefitting the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT). Bringing together art-lovers of all kinds, the highlights of SNAP! 2013 will be the curated silent and live auctions of contemporary photography from Canada and abroad.

Now in its 12th year, the main attraction at the SNAP! Gala is the live auction, featuring the work of some of Canada’s most notable contemporary photographers. Each year this auction gets bigger and better, with this year’s event headed up by Honourary Chair Arlene Dickinson, CEO of Venture Communications and CBC television personality.

“It’s been inspiring to see so many talented photographers donating their time and work to be auctioned off for the cause,” Dickinson says. “Photography is such a moving and emotionally-charged medium that complements this incredibly emotional health issue. HIV/AIDS affects so many people in our city, and the funds raised from SNAP! will help provide much-needed support.” Talented photographers such a Sean Galbraith, Michael Krauss, and Meaghan Ogilvie, to name a few, will be showcased.

In addition to the live auction, this year’s silent auction features an exciting collection of photographic art from both seasoned professionals and talented amateurs. A panel of esteemed judges through the popular Elevator Digital Photo Competition selected images for the silent auction collection.

This year’s event will also acknowledge 30 years of the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT). Since 1983, ACT has championed the cause of people living with, affected by, and at risk for HIV/AIDS, working with gay men, women and youth to increase their knowledge, skills and resilience, and providing them with counselling, information, social support activities and employment programs.
