Mother Launches Coffee Business to Hire Her Two Autistic Children and Start a Movement

There are a million different reasons people start small businesses, but perhaps none quite as altruistic as Long Island single mom Stacey Wohl’s coffee venture.

Wohl launched Our Coffee With a Cause to change the perception of people living with autism and start a movement that dispels the stigmas of hiring disabled people.

Her star employees are her teenage children, Logan and Brittany, who both have autism and are nonverbal. Logan, 16, is responsible for branding and deliveries while 18-year-old Brittany takes care of marketing at trade shows, using an iPad to communicate with customers.

There is a job for them,” said Wohl about the need to give more employment opportunities to people with autism. “They say if that single mother with two autistic children can do this, and she can hire disabled people, why can’t we hire disabled people? And then it becomes a movement.”

Our Coffee With a Cause currently employs five people and is for sale in a variety of stores across Long Island.
