Montreal Weekender: September 5 through 8, 2013

From Montreal Fashion Week to Oysterfest 2013 and the World Press Photo exhibition at Bonsecours Market, there's a little something for every young professional taste. Here's what you should have on your social calendar heading into the weekend

THURSDAY
If you haven’t checked out Montreal Fashion Week, make it a point to do so today. With a huge selection of styling shows and events, there’s a plethora of options to pick and choose from. Highlights include the OldWIG Sale & Special Event, where they will unveil a trend, and “From the Runway to The Film” by Target, presenting a selection of San Francisco International Fashion Film Festival films for guests to view. A stylish, sleek and fun evening!

World Press Photo, the world’s largest and most prestigious photojournalism exhibition, has returned to Bonsecours Market. The event showcases 150 of the year’s most memorable press photographs. Amongst the exhibit for the first time, Regards d’Oxfam-Québec will feature exclusive photographs taken in Burkina Faso in August 2013 by Montreal photojournalist Émilie Régnier. This major photographic event of the new season also presents the 5th edition of AnthropoGraphia’s international competition – 12 photo-reportages and 6 multimedia projects devoted to human rights. A true wonder for the eye!


FRIDAY
The Alcoholic Cinema #10 is back to the MainLine Theater. What better way to begin this glorious new season than by putting some of our favourite back-to-school movies of all-time against each other? The movies fighting for your love this month are Ferris Bueller’s Day Off vs The Breakfast Club. Here’s how this works: You pick the movie, they make up a drinking game… and then we all play together. Admission is 7$, and that includes your first drink. 80s up, YPs!

Did someone say yacht party? Indeed! Darkroom presents a private yacht party with Nathan Barato, an elegant night on the water in company of good friends listening to good music and sipping on cocktails and tasting glorious sushi. The yacht leaves at 11pm and ends at 4am, featuring a full bar and BBQ available… so enjoy a memorable night with Nathan coming home from his long tour in Europe and Ibiza. Only 300 tickets available and they are flying, so get them fast!

SATURDAY
It’s your last day to indulge in the city’s most delicious and creative burgers with cheese as the last day of Montreal Burger Week takes place today. This interactive food festival allows foodies to vote online for their favorite burger. With a compilation of online votes and the help of a few celebrity judges, Burger Week will crown Montreal’s best burger, as well as Canada’s best! A party with Gnarly Head wine will crown the winners and close the week at Montreal’s Le Pavillon… get your tickets now!

Arbutus and The Casual Agent present the classiest literary event of the decade and the most shocking and outrageous party of the year – all in a single night! $20 will get you a copy of “The Lifeguard Suite” and an open bar all night. The night will feature readings by world famous polymath Rollie Pemberton and Depanneur legend, as well as the author of the book that everyone is talking about, Trevor Barton.?Following that, the night will be going off with DJ sets by Doldrums, Cadence Weapon and more.

SUNDAY
Montreal’s Oysterfest 2013, the culinary celebration centered around the delicious oyster, is the place to be today. With all proceeds going towards aquatic sustainability, Oysterfest guests are not only partying and eating the day away, but they’re helping to protect the environment as well. This year’s Oysterfest is set to welcome more than 2000 guests and over 50 partnering restaurants and suppliers. As always, the season’s finest oysters will be handpicked by the Old Port Fishing Company and expertly opened by the hottest shuckers in the city. Join the food, fun, shucking and drinking with us and Montreal’s best.

Spice it up at the Flamenco Festival today! The Montreal Flamenco Festival returns for a second year with the latest edition featuring shows by groups from Montreal, Toronto and Andalusia. Not only will there be an array of beautiful shows and workshops to attend, but there will also be free activities offered around Bigham’s Dépanneur Cafe.
