Montreal Weekender: October 30 to November 2, 2014

THURSDAY
We kick off on a dance note tonight with Eric Morillo. If you haven’t heard of this DJ God before, then, well, we feel for you. There really is very little in the world of music and entertainment that Erick Morillo hasn’t turned his hand to and tonight he will be gracing the stage at New City Gas for their Yelloween weekend festivities. Costume not required, but your dance shoes are.

The circus is back at it again – this time in the kitchen. With their latest creation, Cuisine & confessions, Les 7 Doigts de la Main give birth to a new form of show. It’s a work of art where smell, taste and touch merge with their famous acrobatic exploits. With their renowned human-scale circus, this Quebec collective will create magic and memories within their kitchen. We can’t say more; you just have to see it.

FRIDAY
Ok, now here is something very rare and uber-notable. The Maison Symphonique will be hosting a screening of Rupert Julian’s 1925 film Phantom of the Opera, with live organ accompaniment. Well known to those who frequent the Cinémathèque québecoise, William O’Meara is a master in the art of providing musical accompaniment to silent films, and tonight he will improvise a live musical score for this magical and haunting event.

W Hotel’s Wunder bar will be hosting quite a soiree tonight. Their ”Zombie Pop-Art Halloween Party” will be full of surprises, funky zombie costumes, great music by DJ General Yao, cocktails, and a guaranteed fashionable crowd. This should be on your Halloween party hop tonight. That’s if you’re in the know (wink).

SATURDAY
Usher will be gliding, grinding and breaking hearts at the Bell Centre tonight as part of his UR Tour stop. Expect the classic, the new stuff, and a whole lot of screaming.

What do you get when you merge Frank & Oak, Apt 200 and the dudes from Saint Woods? An epic Halloween party, that’s what. With DJs Rock Milo, Nick Wisdom and Project Pablo, this spot will be overheating from all the dancing and fun.

Is the foodie in you calling out? The MTL a Table is a must-do. Presented by Wines of France, Montreal’s third annual restaurant week features savoury set menus in more than 135 restaurants citywide. Meaning: Great deals on delicious menus. Restaurants include BEVO, Braserrie T!, Dolcetto & Co, Communion, Helene, Kyo and many more to satisfy even the pickiest of palates.

SUNDAY
Restaurant AREM is back up and running, and what better way to revisit this exotic escape in Griffintown than with a unique brunch full of fusion-style food that will make your imagination run wild. Think almond soup, hot babaganoush, oven buttercup… and that’s just a small portion of what will be served.

For the sports lovers out there, the Alouettes will play their final home game of the season against the Toronto Argonauts at Molson Stadium at noon while our Canadiens play the Calgary Flames at the Bell Centre at 7pm. This will be the first time the Canadiens are featured on City TV’s new Hometown Hockey, so a big congrats is in order. Need inspiration? Check out some great spots to catch the game around the city.

And finally, a Halloween weekend wouldn’t be complete without La Ronde’s “Fright Fest”, featuring four haunted houses, crazy and scary entertainment areas, including the new Zombie Camp, plus over 100 incredibly disguised and made up entertainers and dozens of liters of fake blood. Try not to pee your pantalones.
