Montreal Weekender: November 27 through 30, 2014

South of the border, it’s a pretty big day; Thanksgiving Thursday.

People bond with their families, ingest an offensive number of calories, watch football like it was the moon landing, and college freshmen plan out how to dump their high school sweethearts.

But north of the border, this weekend is even bigger; it’s the last chance to warm up those war stories, brace your palate for a veritable parade of holiday flavours, and to write a thoughtful, “My Condolences” card to your liver.

So put on the weekend wool Montreal, the weekend starts now…

THURSDAY
The Nutcracker Market, Montreal’s favourite non-profit Christmas market, is back and bigger then ever. Launched by Les Grands Ballets, the market offers a unique shopping format and one where more than 20,000 visitors are expected to visit. This gift hunter’s paradise is also helping a good cause: 10% of the merchant’s pre-tax sales and all revenues earned by Les Grands Ballets during the market will go to The Nutcracker Fund for Children. Shopping and charity? Yup, we can do that.

Thursday’s on Crescent had a makeover and it’s quite a hit around town. Tonight, they are bringing the old back to the new like never before. 80s, 90s, classic house, and hip-hop – you name it, and they’ll dig through their CDs to find it. Apparently the dance floor is being kept warm for your arrival.

3619 Saint-Laurent Boulevard is home to the spanking new Diablo’s BBQ Smoke House Saloon and you know that means right? A LOT of delicious meat. Starting at 6pm, the Diablo’s team will be on hand to talk to you about the history and menu while cocktails are being poured and samples are being passed around. Tell them Notable sent you.

FRIDAY
Need a shave? BIOTHERM HOMME is here to help you with that. They’ll be giving away free straight razor shaves in Montreal this weekend. Stop by, get a shave, free samples and discounts on the whole range at Hudson’s Bay on St-Catherine St. from 11:30-7:30. Because we love you so much, you can even use our secret Notable promo code to get $5 off any purchase online, just type in ‘Barber Shop’ on the Bay Website.

Join your crew of locally grown moustaches and wrap up the month in costume, celebrating all that is good and hairy at the Montreal Gala Parté. Dress to suit your Mo or Mo Bro and support your local Mo Growers as they battle it out for prestigious titles including Team Mo, Miss Movember, and the ultimate title – Man of Movember 2014. Hope you still got that ‘stache, bro.

SATURDAY
One can never get enough of sprucing up their wardrobe for the winter season right? So if you need some superbly discounted new digs from seriously cool brands like Steven Alan, Filippa K, SWIMS, Arcteryx Veilance, James Perse, and more pop by the WANT sample sale going on all weekend.

If you weren’t at our #NotableAwards Wednesday night chances are you might still be looking for a dance floor to invade this weekend. As always, PEOPL has you covered. Celebrating their 2 year anniversary with an epic night featuring Masters at Work’s Louie Vega & gotsoul’s jojoflores, this night is bound to make your feet shuffle and booty shake.

For something a little more soothing, the greatest artists in the world are coming to Montreal to honour Johann Sebastian Bach. His timelessly beautiful music will be celebrated at the Montreal Bach Festival.

SUNDAY
Sunday is definitely funday in Montreal. Maison Chaplin is back and this time at Jack Saloon Vieux Montreal. The evening will be a themed event benefitting the Movember Foundation and Prostate Cancer Canada by celebrating the “original” moustache gentleman, Charlie Chaplin. Guests will be treated to a special brunch and cocktail menu, entertained by performances and presentations in line with the evenings’ spectacular theme, and offered free shaves or clean ups on your ‘stache by the five barbers on site. Dress code is mandatory Black and/or white.

We can’t believe legendary Old Montreal hotspot Philemon is turning 4 years old (and still going as strong as ever). To celebrate this major milestone and to give yourself an excuse to drink before heading to the office the next day, come share some love with them today and cheers to four more years of debauchery and fun.

Did someone say bottomless mimosas? Rosewood sure did.
