Montreal Weekender: November 15 through 18, 2012

One of Montreal’s coolest art spaces, Galerie MX, presents a great collective exhibition entitled «The sq.ft.». The opening takes place tonight and will give guests the opportunity to meet and interact with the artists in person. The concept of «The sq.ft» is one format, 25 artists and 150 canvases. The challenge the artists that joined this exhibit must surmount is to recreate one’s artistic imprint on a given and restricted surface, in this case one square foot. A great challenge that will showcase the flexibility and imagination of these talented individuals.

RGYM, the workout staple for a lot of Notable’s friends and Aqua Hydrate, are hosting a UFC WEEK Meet and Greet with Mark Homnick and Sam Stout and other surprise fighters. The event will give fans a chance to win free UFC tickets to the upcoming Montreal event and other great goodies as well as to meet their favourite contenders. Sounds like the perfect spot to release some alpha male energy after the office!

One year has passed since the start of the EverybodyKnows movement. FRIDAY
The most anticipated concert of the week has finally arrived. If you haven’t seen everyone and their aunt post this on their Facebook walls, then you must not exist within social media. The Olympia Theater presents Bran Van 3000, a Canadian electronica collective from Montreal, founded by DJ James Di Salvio and E.P. Bergen; here’s a hint…”what the hell am I doing drinking in LA.” If you didn’t know, now you know. Alongside these party rockers are Montreal’s shining turntable stars DJ Abeille and DJ Yo-C. Tickets are almost gone so contact silverhype@live.com, our special connection for extra tickets.

Another fabulous after-work spot, KABANA (Dix30), is celebrating their 3-year anniversary presented by FAB BOSS. The space is known for their sleek design with a striking 40-foot bar and 3000 square feet of dining space. Enormous totem poles surround the room as you will be part of a night featuring amazing DJs, artists, body painters and special celebrity guests. A true night circus that will transport you to a special place!?

SATURDAY
In collaboration with Juste pour rire, Sid Lee, Zoofest, CHOM FM, NRJ Radio and Moosehead, the first-ever “M for Movember” fundraising concert at Montreal’s Club Soda tonight will feature some high-profile local musicians, including Tim from the Stills and Yann Perreau, along with a number of comics. The program will also feature performances by established and up-and-coming artists, iPod battles between media stars, and “M for Moustache”-themed prizes. The five-hour marathon will finish off with performances by surprise guest DJs. All profits from this mo-fabulous evening will be donated to the Movember cause!

Part DJ, part artist, part model, this girl does it all, and tonight she’s launching her own Gallery Fafa at Club Sommet, entitled ART X-HIBITION. Featuring all of Fafa Khan’s artwork, this cocktail soiree and networking event will have all the movers and shakers from the hippest sectors. A great place to enjoy modern art, funky beats, have a post-office drink and connect or re-connect with young movers and shakers.

SUNDAY
Our great friends and supporters over at What’s Really Good Magazine, along with resident writer Mechant Mangeur and Montreal State of Mind, is hosting a brunch this Sunday. This is all for a fantastic cause, raising funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and mental health, as part of Movember. The brunch will be held at Diablos BBQ, which will donate 15% of each bill to Movember. Not only will you be chowing down on some good ‘ol Southern food, but every penny you donate helps this great initiative and you get to have fun all at the same time. Bring your friends, bring your stache, starting at 10:30am.

After your tummy can’t take anymore, pop over to Matinee. In their first partnership with KoKo’s, Crown Real Estate Group and guest hosts the Drysdale Group and Michael Levy, they are proud to join the Movember Movement with style. With names like The El Bandito, The Regent, The Zappa and The Burgundy, it’s no wonder everyone’s talking about this happening. It will be a day of fun with great food, champagne, a beautiful ambience, and the manliest men your eyes have ever seen (single ladies, we hear you calling). Proceeds will be donated to Movember Canada, come and show your support!
