Montreal Weekender: November 14 through 17, 2013

THURSDAY
Being that it is our first-ever Notable 5 a 7, we couldn’t be more excited for it to be Thursday! Join us and the great folks at Old Montreal’s The Royal Merchant for “The Notable Merchants” après-work party. Here’s what to expect tonight: Stewart’s Black Cherry Jerry Happy Hour, free pizza between 5 and 7pm for Pizza Season, the finest oysters by Mothershucker Terlecki, Burgundy Lion’s Toby Lyle bartending for the Movember Donation Jar, your favorite classic rock hits, and some awesome young professionals kicking it, socializing and networking. Get ready, it’s going to be a fun one!

Notable ladies! Are you a professional juggling love and work, expectations and ambitions? If so, the TIMEOUT Workshop series might be for you. Receive practical tools to build your strongest life, discover your natural talents and how to leverage them, and learn about the most common challenges and how to overcome them, with Montreal’s human uniqueness experts Rosanna Tomiuk and Daria Nardozza. A refreshing and eye-opening workshop for those in need of a timeout.

FRIDAY
The 2nd annual and highly anticipated Project K fundraiser is taking place tonight and supports a wonderful cause. It all takes place at La Toundra, where guests will indulge in delicious food prepared by gourmet caterer Olive Orange and dance the night away with music by DJ Myles Hainsworth! Beer and wine are on the house, but there will also be a fully stocked cash bar. The goal of the 2013 Project K campaign is to raise funds to build the Kilema District Hospital’s first fully functioning laundry facility in Tanzania, Africa.

If dancing the night away is on the agenda, make sure you check out Laurier’s new indie hot spot, Datcha. Already buzzing and having had a lot of musical celebs hang around, this super intimate spot is host to Dave Shaw  and Iron Galaxy tonight, bringing their house, disco, and molecular gastronomy. Hosted by party master DL Jones, this is truly a unique gathering of people from all walks of life and styles.

SATURDAY
The most anticipated young professional charity gala of the week has finally arrived! Montblanc Montreal presents YAD 007 GALA, bringing the sleek sophistication of Casino Royale and the Intrigue of Dr. No. The evening will include a cocktail dinatoire, premium open bar by Belvedere Vodka & Glenmorangie, Casino Royale, late night snacks, top secret entertainment and VIP swag. Of course black tie spy glamour attire is expected and your drinks will be both shaken and stirred. All funds raised go to support Federation CJA’s annual fundraising campaign. Get giving, notables!

Continuing into our mega eventful weekend, the parties just don’t seem to stop. Next on the list are the kings of pop-up parties in Montreal, Saint Woods, with their fifth installment of this series taking place at the highly coveted barber shop we recently wrote about, Notorious. Sticking to their theme of showcasing new music in unconventional venues, they are bringing artists High Klassified and DA-P to this stylin’ shop. The notable part? Free guestlist if you sign up here

SUNDAY
If you are still alive today and wanting more, last week’s cancelled “Buranchi” Matinee party is fully on at the trendy Flyjin. Beginning at 2pm, resident DJs Toddy Flores & Danny Torrence will warm up the crowd with the most eclectic arrangement of hip-hop, house and R&B while guests will dine on the finest brunch and sip on the best bubbly. By 5pm, the bottle service menu will be in full effect and the DJs will be spinning the best beats to help you dance the day away.

Now for a little something more mellow and musical. American alternative rock band Mazzy Star is taking over Club Soda and, damn, are we reminiscing. Is there anyone out there that hasn’t slow danced or made out to their hit Fade Into You?  Regardless, the haunting and beautiful vocals of lead singer Hope Sandoval need to be heard live; she’s a true gem on stage and catching them live is quite rare.
