Montreal Weekender: May 25 through 27, 2012

So the sun keeps on shining and the happiness is growing with smiling faces, short skirts and t-shirts crowding the streets everywhere. The weekends in Montreal keep getting busier and busier, not only with the student protests, but with everyone wanting to soak up as much of this new-found weather as possible. Aside from some fabulous places to eat and drink, Montreal really offers something for everyone. From festivals to fundraise, we’ve got it all.

Let’s start with Friday. The Royal Saint Lawrence Yacht Club is hosting a gala dinner with an auction for the Rotary Club of Montreal Lakeshore. The dinner is set to benefit its various charities. Tickets are $75 each and the silent auction begins right at 6pm. Click here for ticket information.

If a more casual dinner is on your mind, the weather is ideal for a visit to Il Cortile in the Golden Square Mile. It’s hidden deep within a small building boasting a beautiful Urban Terasse, serving classic Italian food with a romantic atmosphere including the best Tiramisu in the city. For some night action, head over to Koko Restaurant & Bar in the Opus Hotel for some patio mingling and good beats.

Saturday, bring some culture into your life by checking out The OFFTA, an artistic event created by Montreal artists on the edge of the Festival TransAmériques. The OFFTA offers a multidisciplinary program centered on contemporary creation and the encounter of various art forms taking place in different locations around the city.

Another great fundraiser is taking place on Saturday at the Eastwood Equine benefiting the Breast Clinic of MUHC. It is the Cedars Jump for Hope, featuring survivor equestrians followed by a country gala and live auction.

Rather stay in the city? Take a nice break at Le Local. Located near the Cité du Multimedia and styled like an old factory with a gorgeous patio covered with ivy, this restaurant is truly something. Here you will find a more shi-shi crowd and a lot of famous faces have been seen enjoying some sweet chardonnay.

For the late-night goers, Terrace Bonsecours is now open for business. Warning: for serious partiers only. Located in Old Montreal, Terrace Bonsecours offers a very unique nightlife setting with stunning views of the Quays and an array of famous DJs making stops on the weekends spinning away late into the night.

Sunday is a Caribbean day. A Taste of the Caribbean Festival is celebrating its 13th anniversary at Marche Bonsecours. You can experience a lot of what the Caribbean has to offer without jetting away on a plane. The theme this year is Caribbean Escape and will feature over 75 Caribbean dishes from over 14 Caribbean countries prepared by local and visiting Caribbean executive chefs. Guests will also experience cultural dance performers, sample exquisite award-winning Caribbean rums, dance to live steel bands and orchestras and witness an authentic Caribbean fashion show. We can’t think of a more perfect way to end of the week.

Calypso away Montreal!
