Montreal Weekender: May 22 through 25, 2014

THURSDAY
It’s a big game today, and no matter who you are we’re pretty sure your eyes will be glued to the TV praying that the Habs pull out a miracle. If you are still looking for a fun venue to grab a brew, people watch and cheer the boys on, Santos is hosting a double birthday and showing the game on the big screen… guaranteed to be a bit of a gong show, for lack of a better term. For a more intimate vibe with free shots (only if they score), check out our pals at the Royal Merchant for some good times.

Finance heads, this one is for you. The Institute of Trading and Finance (IOTAF) in associate with OCRAM Capital is hosting its grand opening cocktail party. This is a great opportunity to meet and connect with new people in the business world that are driven towards success over a young professional-oriented 5 a 7.

FRIDAY
MAC Museum’s second installment of Les Nocturnes du Mac is back. Throughout the evening you can visit the exhibitions, attend a live performance or a gallery talk with an artist or curator, have a bite or enjoy a drink until after midnight. Featuring some stellar DJs such as BAYA, Seb Diamond, Zubi and Thomas Von Party, the Musée is becoming the place to be.

OldWIG is having a mega three-day vintage sale full of your aunt’s hip clothes, Etsy jewelry, local designers and, of course, live DJs. Still not enticed? Check out the opening party hosted by DL Jones at the cool Mme Lee tonight to get you amped to scour loads pretty things. Go ahead, wig out.

SATURDAY
Today is a great day to get cultured and discover an international event celebrating new works in contemporary dance and theatre: the Festival TransAmériques. The Festival presents exciting forms of the art of our era, featuring works by choreographers, writers and directors. The Festival is also very interactive and encourages exchange between artists and audience by making workshops, debates and round table discussions open and available to anyone. A wonderful and diverse showcase of different disciplines, make sure to check out their entire schedule and start planning away.

What do you get when you have two extremely musically talented twins? You hope that they join forces and form an epic musical duo. You guessed right, Canadian indie rock darlings Tegan and Sara will be at the Metropolis tonight delivering what they do best: fun and awesome music.

SUNDAY
There is one thing that you HAVE to do today: check out the second annual Lobster Clam Jam by Fab Boss. This is the culinary festival of the weekend with the mission to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation Quebec. Expect a variety of renowned local restaurants giving you the opportunity to experience a unique dish of their choice varying from seafood, meat, fish and our Festival’s very own signature lobster creations. There will be approximately 20 restaurants, a mojito bar, a beer bar, a wine bar and two dessert sections on site. The event will be set up in a beautiful outdoor atmosphere near the Lachine canal just west of the Atwater Market with beats provided by DJ Eddie Lewis.

Looking for something a little healthier after a weekend of margaritas, patios and more margaritas? Then join the ‘Stroll for Liver’ and help raise funds for research and education on liver diseases. This is a cultural and urban 5k walk where everyone is welcome. You can join on your own or rally people you know and join as a team. Team members can include coworkers, friends, family members, students, clients or vendors. Be sure to pick a team captain to help recruit and inspire your team! The walk starts at 9 a.m. from Quartier des Spectacles (on the corner of Saint-Urbain and De Maisonneuve). Register now and show your liver how much you love it.
