Montreal Weekender: May 1 through 4, 2014

You’ve probably already heard all about what you missed at our Holy Thursdays 5 a 7 last week, so we’re sure we’ll see you tonight at Santos. The fun doesn’t stop there, though; you’ve still got a Dipset pop-up shop and two must-attend fundraisers to keep you going strong all through the weekend to Monday morning…

THURSDAY
If you couldn’t make it last week, we highly suggest you check out what you missed at our #HolyThursdays 5 a 7 at the legendary Santos and ensure you join the coolest young professional event in the city. What awaits you at the stroke of 5pm today? Dance-worthy beats by the lovely DJ Miss’Ness, a PUR Vodka discovery booth, delicious Spanish tapas, Stewart’s old-fashioned grape and vodka cocktail specials, fashionable CHRLDR giveaways, an AQUAhydrate hydration station, and the city’s coolest kids. Last week was jammed top to bottom, so we recommend getting there early.

Embark on a virtual airplane trip to India, Vietnam and South Africa and help raise funds for Room to Read, an international non-profit organization which improves the lives of millions of children in Africa and Asia by fostering literacy and gender equality in education. The evening will be hosted by Quebec actress Alice Tran and by South African artist Lorraine Klaasen. Room to Read Founder and author of Leaving Microsoft to Change the World John Wood, along with Frima Studio President Steve Couture, will be special guests.

The notable part? Everyone flies business class! In-flight service will include Vietnamese appetizers, Indian teas and South African wines with in-flight videos by Frima Studio and a silent auction featuring an exciting selection of prizes in keeping with the theme of travel and adventure.

FRIDAY
Paws4ACause is back, a time where animal lovers, young professionals, and partygoers unite to raise money at Montreal’s top annual animal-loving celebration. This year’s edition will be taking place at the urban-chic Espace Canal (4020 St-Ambroise) where, for $80, guests will be able to enjoy their favourite drinks while knowing that they have contributed to the SPCA’s mission of combating animal cruelty. With endless drinks poured, beats spun by DJ Yo?C, and face and body painting, this year’s theme, “Animal House,” will surely bring out the animal in you.

It has finally arrived. After London, New York, New Orleans, Portland and Toronto, it’s our turn to host a cocktail week. Invasion Cocktail’s first edition will be held from May 1st to May 6th, 2014, in various neighbourhoods around our fair city. Invasion Cocktail will be represented by the awesome foursome of Miss Margarita, Major Martini, Captain Old Fashioned and Colonel Collins, encompassing around 21 events over the span of six days in over 20 bars across Old Montreal, Plateau Mont Royal, Mile End, Rosemont, Outremont, Villeray and Griffintown. Check the schedule for daily events and listings!

SATURDAY
Here’s something pretty dope: Saintwoods and Lndmrk are hosting a full day full of Dipset stuff. They’ll be kicking it OG with the Dipset pop-up shop featuring extremely rare streetwear, which is totaly sold out in Toronto and NYC. While you shop, Tommy Kruise, Brounchies Babies and Tron will be spinning tunes to make your head bop. Once you finish, head over to the official Dipset USA after party at Apt 200 starting at 10pm until… you know the drift.

As if there hasn’t already been a plethora of young professional charities popping up, here’s one more to add to your list: Heels & HeART hosts its “Big 5 Year Celebration” Wearable Art Fashion Show at Espace Griffintown. The theme is FUTURISTIC FASHION and all funds raised benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. This event shines a light on young, local designers who are trying to break into the fashion industry but who do not have the means necessary to gain the recognition they deserve on their own. Judges on this year’s panel include editors from Spoiler Magazine and the designers behind MARTIN LIM. An event for every fashion lover at heart.

SUNDAY
Table of Hope is hosting the Combat des Chefs at Share the Warmth today at noon. Welcome to an unprecedented culinary competition and what promises to be a fun-filled community afternoon. Four of Montreal’s top chefs are looking to step up to the everyday challenges that Share the Warmth’s community faces; they will be creating a sandwich lunch dish in 40 minutes while balancing food budgets, dealing with the reality of limited equipment access and restricted ingredients, all the while educating a youth partner sous chef. This is the first competition of its kind; join and #EAT2FEED.

Want to get a little dance in after a good ol’ sandwich battle? Matinee Brunch Montreal will be hosting this year’s closing party for Semaine Yelloweek by Veuve Clicquot. This boho chic-inspired event will be held from 2pm to 8pm at the famous Buonanotte on the Main. Resident DJs Danny Torrence and Toddy Flores will be playing the old school jams we all love to sing to and the house tracks we all want to dance to. Make your reservation ASAP – this will be one of our most anticipated parties of the year. The one and only Fafa Khan will be the evening’s special guest host.
