Montreal Weekender: March 27 through 30, 2014

THURSDAY
Kicking off on a sick musical note, RAC, aka Remix Artist Collective, a group of international members who create re-interpretative rock/electronica/dance remixes for musical artists, are taking over the Corona Theatre tonight. Prepare those dancing shoes to jump along to new incarnations of songs remixed in a way you would never imagine.

MIXGENIUS, a Montreal-based music technology company offering the world’s first intelligent production tools for musicians, is celebrating the launch of the LANDR (beta) – their online mastering studio. What better way to have a ball than by inviting Montreal music fans to their Mile-End office loft space for a fun evening of pinball, lasers, free beer and music by DJ Cadence Weapon.

GALT is the newest addition to downtown Montreal’s nightlife, located on the top floor of 1232 rue de la Montagne. Its unique décor features wood and copper finishings as well as two bars, one of which is equipped with premium scotches and single malts from around the world. And we have some notable news: as our reader, GALT invites you to a cocktail event tonight, beginning at 5pm. You will be given the opportunity to sample GALT’s signature cocktails and snacks while you take in performances by the Carpe Diem circus company. The festivities are building up to be pretty serious….we’re just preparing you.

FRIDAY
The MLB is back… just for two days. For the Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays, this might just be a game at the finish of their spring training schedule, but for Montreal and baseball fans, this is a chance to celebrate what we once had, our beloved Expos. Today and tomorrow, Major League Baseball will return to our fair city for the first time since 2004, the final year the Expos played here before packing up and moving to Washington and becoming the Nationals. Come celebrate this special event with baseball fans from across the city; it will be one to remember.

The Montreal Young Italian Association (MYICA) proudly presents its first event for those of us that love the culinary delights of Italian culture with their Cibo di Strada street food event. With the help of local culinary talent, this event has created a degustation menu that represents North, Central and Southern Italian street food with featured regions such as Emilia Romagna, Lazio and Sicilia. Join hundreds of food aficionados to indulge in the fine art of Italian dining alongside beats by DJ Gafas. Spaces are limited, so get your tickets now.

SATURDAY
With spring finally showing its colours, a little comedy and humour is the perfect recipe to celebrate the coming of warmer months ahead. Just For Laughs is thrilled to announce that Scottish comedian, festival favourite and star of The Late Late Show Craig Ferguson will be performing tonight at Maison Symphonique with his witty and hilarious stand-up performance titled Hot & Grumpy. Currently the host of The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on CBS, he has become a huge success on the North American comedy circuit, performing all over the country and selling out Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. Get ready for a night of some serious laughs.

In the mood for an enchanting opera filled with refreshing melodies and colourful characters? Then Hansel und Gretel should be on your itinerary for tonight. This is a fairytale for young and old that combines the richness of a Wagnerian orchestra with the simplicity of folk songs; an exceptional collaboration with the National Circus School and the National Theatre School of Canada. With emerging artists, opera, and circus artists, this production is truly magical.

SUNDAY
The Segal Centre is showcasing another classic on the stage with GlenGarry Glen Ross sharing the tale of lies, bribery and intimidation. Four Chicago real estate agents are prepared to do just about anything to stay at the top of their game in this masterpiece of American drama. With scintillating dialogue that will have you on the edge of your seat, Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet’s brilliant dark comedy asks: just how far will you go to close the deal?

The main event of sugaring by Promenade Wellington is back for its 4th edition. L’Érablière panache et bois rond will host 15 restaurateurs who offer their interpretation of a typical Sugar Shack menu between De l’Église and Gordon streets. Taffy on snow and a gourmet menu specially prepared for the occasion by Promenade Wellington chiefs and their guests will satisfy the hungriest of us. Fifteen local producers and artisans will also be present to make you rediscover the ancient know-how of sugaring at home.
