Montreal Weekender: March 20 through 23, 2014

THURSDAY
For the art lover in you, Arsenal Contemporary Art is proud to present “I & US,” an exhibition by multidisciplinary artist and documentary director Sophie Lambert. This exhibition is the culmination of work that began three years ago on social media and consists of six initiatives where the artist invited people to reveal themselves, their private reality, and let themselves explore or push the boundaries of their personal comfort zone. The result is a mosaic of contemporary society, of the individual and of the collective experience through photographs and videos.

The International Festival Of Films on Art takes off today and is a must for your social calendar. This 11-day competitive festival is the most important annual event of its kind in the world. A must-attend for all artists, art and film enthusiasts, this industry-renowned festival showcases the best productions of film on art produced across the globe. The festival embraces multiple forms of creativity, including painting, sculpture, architecture, contemporary art, digital art, literature, design, fashion, theater, dance, music, and photography.

FRIDAY
The Sainte-Justine CHU Foundation is proud to invite you to the 13th edition of the Mont-Royal Ball tonight. This annual glam and jet set event that takes place at the Montreal Science Center will gather some 1,500 young professionals looking to celebrate in good company. This fabulous night is the perfect blend of unique performances, frenzy music and open bar. Come live the pop art experience and discover a modern interpretation of Andy Warhol’s Factory animated by Anouk Meunier alongside beats by Misstress Barbara. A great event for a greater cause!

If sweat pants and a good old brew at home are calling your name, you picked the perfect night. Why? How about the fact that Vice, the news magazine series based on the Montreal-born magazine of the same name, debuts its second season on HBO Canada. The show will feature some of the most compelling, entertaining and important news stories that go unreported by mainstream media outlets. Trust us, it’s seriously worth a watch.

SATURDAY
Our soccer pride and joy, the Montreal Impact, are kicking off their season (literally) this Saturday taking on the Seattle Sounders at the Olympic Stadium. With over 24,000 tickets already sold, the troops are expecting lots of support, meaning a lot of chants, noise and fans!

In need of some good tunes, food and great people? Then head over to neighbourhood hot spot Furco for SWOON, once again taking over Furco for a night of debaucheries and footwork. Just like the last time, the Marvelous RrKelly will be on the ones and twos playing some of the most delectable hip-hop and RnB tracks from the 90s up until today, while the yummy cuisine of Furco’s chefs will be offered all the way until midnight to satisfy those late night cravings.

SUNDAY
All you brides to be, event planners or just lovers of beautiful things, The Bridal Boudoir Affair is back, this time drawing its inspiration from the classic spy movies to present a one-of-a-kind event with a sexy twist. It’s a showcase featuring unique ideas for anyone planning an event, whether it’s a lavish dinner party or a once-in-a-lifetime wedding. You can spend the day sampling cocktails, finger food, desserts and meet a carefully curated collection of original florists, caterers, musicians, décor specialists and jewelers all under one space. Men, worry not, there’s a special lounge for you there so you can kick back with your buddies and sample some fine liquors.

Get those tummies ready because it’s time for Fab Boss’ 2nd annual Urban “Cabane à Sucre” at Restaurant Brama. This is a Decadent (food art music) “Cabane à Sucre,” so get ready to eat all those classic dishes you’ve experienced at the conventional Cabane à Sucre but with a DECADENT twist! This includes their very own “in-house” maple syrup taffy and menu by Chef Marco Berolucci and art by the very talented Ferg Gadzala.
