Montreal Weekender: July 31 through August 3, 2014

THURSDAY
Today is the day that Southwestites will join forces in the Ste-Cunégonde Park (Notre-Dame West) for the fundraising launch of La Maison des Jeunes La Galerie at the “A Little Burgundy Affair.” The evening will feature a variety of food and drink stands from local restaurants and bars, live music, games for children, a silent auction, as well as a live date auction with hot local singles. All of this raises funds for the relocation of this 35-year-old youth organization. Let’s keep them going!

To get started on the Osheaga madness, Kidnap Kid and Jay London are performing at the Main’s Apt. 200. Kidnap Kid is one of the hottest young acts on UK label Black Butter with over 2.5 million followers on Soundcloud and Jay London, well, he’s always a favourite. Thank you, Saintwoods.

FRIDAY
Yes, notable music fanatics, Osheaga starts today and the lineup is insane. Skrillex, Outkast, Band of Horses, Foster the People, Awolnation, Childish Gambino… and that’s just a fraction of who will be performing today. Don’t forget the festivities go all the way until Sunday. Earplugs might be necessary, and boots too.

What better way to end Osheaga than with an Osheaga afterparty? Chromeo has you covered tonight at the Virgin Corona Theatre alongside Bear Mountain and Base Camp. Last Gang Records is also celebrating their 10th year anniversary, so you know the party will be popping off.

SATURDAY
Continuing into the crazy Osheaga festivities of the weekend, Le Belmont, known for its epic parties, will be hosting Tommy Kruise, who has pretty much been everywhere right now doing everything from spots at events like Boiler Room MTL to gigs in New York City. Warning: this is bound to be a wild one.

Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, L’Abreuvoir teams up with the smart team behind Good Saturdays to bring you a good old block party. Twice a month, Block Party will be a hymn to house music, which will highlight your sunny afternoons and early evenings. As vibrant as a New York street party, this gathering will feature live DJs, soul food and the homely feeling of this very distinctive venue. 403 rue Ontario Est; write that down and bring some foodie goodies along with you for the BBQ.

SUNDAY
The last day of Osheaga means you have to truly just let it all out and dance the night away. Theatre Corona is hosting the party of the night with Australia’s Cut Copy, Scottish electronic super band CHVRCHES and Beat Market. If you haven heard any of these acts, go to YouTube now. Seriously.

The Montreal Highland Games will take place in their new venue today with full highland pageantry. The day will include a pipe band, highland dance and heavyweight competitions including the caber toss, hammer throw and putting the stone. Salty Dog, a local band well known for its Celtic music, will be on tap for the afternoon and evening program. Get Scottish!
