Montreal Weekender: July 24 through 27, 2014

THURSDAY
How does one make a hit sitcom that wins Golden Globes in its first season? The cast, producers and creators of FOX and Universal Television’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine know how and they’re ready to share their secrets with a special candid conversation in this year’s ComedyPRO Conference. This is a chance for fans and aspiring industry members to hear first-hand about all the fun that happens behind the scenes of an instant comedy classic. Featuring: Andre Braugher, Andy Samberg, Chelsea Peretti, Daniel J. Goor, David Miner, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, Michael Schur, Stephanie Beatriz and Terry Crews.

Just For Laughs isn’t only about comedy because there’s now an entirely new aspect to the festival: an epic open-air nightclub right in the heart of Downtown Montreal. The Melting Pot’s “Nuits Folles” transforms the Place Des Arts Esplanade into a nightly club out in the summer air. The club zone has multiple open-air bars for drinks, on-site food trucks, and back-to-back shows by world-class DJs, and tonight you can catch Just Blaze, Lunice and High Klassified. Starting from 10pm until 3am, get those sneakers ready.

FRIDAY
The Village Éphémère is hosting another great musical guest at its open-air esplanade. Jazz Amnesty Sound System with DJ Andy Williams and Sweet Daddy Luv will be giving free performances starting at 6pm. Come by to grab a cocktail, fill up on food from Landry & filles and Traiteur GURU, and dance the day away.

LACOSTE’s flagship at 1011 Ste-Catherine Street West invites you for several musical 5 a 7s during the MEG Festival and today is another special one featuring beats by Truwayz. Pop by for some shopping, music, contests and good old networking.

SATURDAY
The one and only Justin Timberlake will be moonwalking and strutting across the stage at the Bell Centre tonight in his suit and tie… we hope.

Jansport is back for another round of bands and bonfires. Today’s event will bring together Montreal rockers SOLIDS, The Besnard Lakes, and a very special solo performance by Mac DeMarco. All are performing at the Ilot Charlevoix du Canal Lachine. The event is 18+ and you MUST RSVP to attend by clicking here.

Don’t forget to make some room for some of the many insane shows gracing the various Zoofest stages. Our recommendation: “The Boy With Tape on His Face” – no one knows how the boy got tape on his face or why he can’t remove it, but none of that matters because the boy’s brand new show will dazzle you with its one-of-a-kind amazement. Kings of Comedy features three noble houses that will battle for supremacy to become the one true King of Zoofesteros. From the author and creator of the internationally acclaimed “Pretending Things Are a Cock,” this is a story of the strange relationship between a comedian and his extremely conservative father, a man who has died more than once.

SUNDAY
Don’t let the title turn you off, but the “World Hepatitis Day Celebration” will be taking place at the always crazy Tams Tams. Join supporters for a celebration with music, good food and family fun activities. There will be surprise loot bags, acrobats, jugglers, live music plus free freezies so you can cool off in the hot summer sun. Come support this great cause and get educated while having a notable summer time.

Rather be on the water? Come out and enjoy a day in the sun aboard an exclusive 300-person yacht in Montreal’s Old Port. Full bar, bottle service, fully catered by Dirty Dogs and non-stop performances by some of Montreal’s hottest DJs spinning the best in house and old school hip hop await. That’s right, #LeBrunch is here.
