Montreal Weekender: July 11 through 14, 2013

THURSDAY
One of our favorite diners in the city, Le Gros Jambon, is hosting chefs Stephen Leslie, Dan Samuel Geltner, and Aldo Loud as they team up for a special, secret one-night event. They’ll be serving up their delicious take on modern diner food such as homemade dogs, meatloaf, fish-taouk, stuffed pablonos, boar tacos and more. Brynley Leach will be pouring the killer cocktails while Myles Hainsworth spins the tunes. It’s $40 a head, doors open at 8pm, food is being served from 9-12. The secret entrance is at the gate on St. Alexis right across from l’Orignal and the answer to the admittance riddle you’ll be asked is, “The pig and the moose are doing it at the tavern.” We’re serious.

One of Just For Laughs’ longest-running favourites, The Ethnic Show, takes place at Club Soda tonight. This year’s Ethnic Show is set to be one of the talking points of the 31st edition of the Just For Laughs festival. Hosted by Newfoundland’s Shaun Majumder and starring Gary Gulman (the Jew), Fahim Anwar (the Afghani), Trevor Noah (the South African), Cristela Alonzo (the Mexican) and Ryan Hamilton (the Mormon), the Ethnic Show will once again feature a rainbow coalition of comics poking fun at traditions, customs and cultures. Best enjoyed with a grain of salt!

In case you missed it, here are our Seven Must-See Shows of the Festival.
