Montreal Weekender: January 8 through 11, 2015

You know what today is, don’t you?

Yup, it’s the day that’s three days after the first episode of the 19th season of the Bachelor.

It’s also Thursday.

And while you might be trying to ease your way into 2015 with raw carrots and stingy budgets, the weekend waits for no one. In fact, your weekend starts right now, Montreal…

THURSDAY

Dance machines rejoice. Datcha will be hosting two epic DJ sets featuring the always-enigmatic GrandBuda and one of the youngest and most advanced producers around, Noo-Bap. Expect an 11pm start time – ‘cause that’s how it’s done in the Mile-End.

JERSEY BOYS is not recommended for children under the age of 12 due to strong, profane, authentic Jersey’ language. The show also involves smoking, strobe lights and gun shots.” And… we’re sold. Only running until January 11th, this Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical depicting the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, will make even the shyest audience member get up to sing along.

FRIDAY

The 8th annual Happening Gourmand will keep young professional (YP) bellies happily stuffed during this frosty season. From January 8 to February 8, eight restaurants including BEVO, Kyo, Modavie, and more scattered throughout Old Montreal will prepare special lunch and dinner menus at great rates. Dig into the city’s most palatable plates for a fraction of the price. #NomNom.

Superstar Canadian electronic music duo Zeds Dead will be blasting the speakers off the walls at New City Gas tonight. Not familiar with their name or music? Now you are. Bottles and earplugs will be in ample supply.

SATURDAY

Centaur’s 18th Annual Wildside Theatre Festival is back on and featuring 10 days of sensational, cutting-edge theatre by local, national and international independent theatre companies. Plays will feature subjects centered around pushing our sexual boundaries to freakishly epic rock’n roll operas. You want it? They got it.

Treat your best friend today and we’re not talking about the human kind. The Plateau is now home to a serious doggy Cafe open daily from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Customers can be treated to delicious vegetarian food while your furry friend will be indulging in homemade cookies and chilling in a special area. Did we mention they offer canine cuisine classes and doggy training?

SUNDAY

One of our favourite Atwater Market vendors and cookers of the finest food from Singapore, The Satay Brothers, now have a new location in St.Henri (3721, Notre-Dame West). This permanent home will allow you to enjoy their special pork burgers, gado-gado salads, cold soups, and more anytime you want.

The spirit of ancient China is invading Montreal and you need to see it. The Shen Yun Performing Arts brings to life a bygone culture with a gloriously colourful and exhilarating show of classical Chinese dance and music. Its masterful choreography and graceful routines range from grand classical processions to ethnic and folk dances, with gorgeously costumed dancers moving in stunning synchronized patterns. The show features a live orchestra and is seriously breath-taking.
