Montreal Weekender: January 16 through 19, 2014

Thursday
It’s time to party Montreal-style, and what better way to get anointed into being a true Montrealerer than to survive mega-party Igloofest. This year, for the 8th edition, Igloofest returns for four weekends and a total of 12 simultaneously hot and frosty nights. With sponsors like Hype Energy Drink and Sapporo, the buzz will be going all night. Igloofest brings together thousands of electronic music fans to dance under the stars at the Old Port of Montreal every year. Check out local and international DJs, the Igloo Village and the famous “one piece” contest, as well as many more attractions at this ‘cool’ event. So dress in your best 80s one-piece with your crew and head down to this not-to-be-missed icy time.

Kick off the new year in the carnival atmosphere of Venice amongst other notable young professionals from across Montreal at the Musée des beaux-arts de Montreal. The Splendore a Venezia Unplugged Event takes place only tonight and allows you to enjoy activities relating to the buzzed-about exhibition, cocktails and networking with hundreds of YPs who are passionate about culture and philanthropy.

Friday

Car lovers, the Montreal Auto Show is back at the Palais des Congrès starting today and packs a strong punch of vehicles to make even your wildest dreams go vrooooom! More than 500 new models will be showcased including Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley… well, you get the point. What we are really looking forward to is the eye candy in the form of the Felino cB7, a supercar that evokes the spirit of the bat mobile and is 100% Quebec-made by former race car driver Antoine Bessette.

Another show that falls into the more R-rated category but could be a load of fun (no pun intended) is The Montreal Salon de l’Amour et de la Séduction, a three-day consumer adult showcase aimed towards anyone looking to spice up their life. But be prepared: this might not be for the faint of heart, because what you will encounter will include seminars, stage shows, celebrities, erotic art, the dungeon (don’t ask), and more.

Saturday
The Fête des neiges opens at Jean Drapeau Park today and runs weekends until Feb. 9. Get ready for winter activities of all kinds like the World Financial Group Tube Slide, Himalaya Zip-Line, Cross-Country Skiing and Open Snowshoeing Trails for the active spirit in you. If being more romantic is what you’re seeking, the horse-drawn sleigh tour or the ferris wheel are good choices. The event boasts something for everyone and is a great way to spend a full Saturday.

Hop in your car and go for a drive to Quebec City to check out the 15th edition of The Snowboard Jamboree festival, which returns to Stoneham Mountain Resort and downtown Québec City from January 16 to 19, 2014. This is a large-scale event showcasing the many facets of snowboarding and will be the last chance for many of the athletes from around the world to secure a spot on their respective Olympic teams for Sochi. After the sports are done, athletes and spectators alike will party away at the plethora of fashion and music events organized around the site.

Sunday
La Tohu always brings innovative and unique theatre and PIQUE is no exception. Profound and provocative, sexy and surprising, PIQUE takes place in the heart of a war between East and West, good and evil, fall and redemption, Eros and Thanatos, the Iraqi and Nevada deserts. While in Las Vegas gamblers try to play their cards right in the lottery of life, American soldiers are caught in a storm of moral dilemmas as they hunt down the Ace of Spades (Saddam Hussein) in the Iraqi desert. With a circular stage, this experience will be one to truly remember.

The Bud Rock Tribute Sundays series at the Theatre St-Denis celebrates the musical genius of Supertramp in the comfort of a theatre auditorium with the best rock atmosphere. Relive the years of glory of Supertramp with Tramp of Century, a tribute band that unites seven seasoned musicians under the direction of Roger Leclerc. Rock on, YPs, rock on.
