Montreal Weekender: February 21 through 24, 2013

THURSDAY
The 14th edition of Montreal En Lumiere is starting tonight, and boy are we ever excited! The Quartier des Spectacles, Montreal’s cultural heart, will once again be where Montreal will congregate to celebrate one of our city’s coolest festivals. Some of tonight’s highlights include The Festival of Our Cheeses at Complexe Desjardins – La Grande Place, the mouth-watering Belgian waffles available amongst the other food stands at Place des Festivals, the Buenos Aires exhibit, which will allow you to discover the places and cultural events that define the city as the Latin American cultural capital, and let’s not forget the interactive 110-metre-long MEL slide, which is guaranteed to be one of the superstars of our Montreal winter! The festival is jam-packed with activities, so the best thing to sort your schedule out is to visit their website and start planning!

One year older and one year wiser, Montreal’s premier men’s online retailer and the winner of our Notable Award for best online business, Frank & Oak, are celebrating their one-year anniversary in style at the Korova Bar on St.Laurent. Come join the men and women behind Frank & Oak for an evening of drinks, dancing, and celebration. Friends from near and afar are congregating to cheers the grand success that this business has accomplished in just 12 months. Music will be provided by another Notable Award nominee, DJ Shaydakiss.

The official launch of Red Factory.ca, an online clothing store for the true trendsetters who aren’t afraid to stand out of the crowd and for the chic women who have that little edge in them takes place tonight as well. There will be surprises all night and an exclusive presentation of the new collection by designer Arti Gogna. The notable part? The entry is free and the event promises to be truly special.

FRIDAY
It’s fashion Friday! SynesthASIA, a student-run Montreal charity fashion show inspired by the artistic movement based on a neurological condition of cross-wired senses, is taking place. This is their 5th fashion show and promises to be bigger than ever. There will be fantastic giveaways from French Connection to American Apparel and Laurent et Denis, a guest performance from Mosaica and Urban Groove, a silent auction, and a gorgeous art gallery mounted on the second floor of the event. The SynesthASIA organization is dedicated to raising funds for sustainable development and poverty alleviation projects throughout Asia and is a great cause to attend and donate to.

SATURDAY
One of the most talked about charity events of this year, Dolce, is hosting their second edition gala. Put on by the Young Leader’s Circle, the event’s goal is to raise funds for the Montreal Children’s Hospital. More than 500 young professionals are expected to attend this evening filled with an open bar provided by Le Confessional, the best sweets, cupcakes and candy to satisfy all your sugar cravings, in addition to music by our friends DJ Rich and Kiss and top notch swag bags. Networking, socializing and good giving – what can be more notable?

Planning on hopping in your four wheel drive and making your way up to Mount Tremblant? A good reason to consider that idea is Cafe D’Epoque’s Full Moon party, as inspired by the original from Koh Phangan, Thailand. The bar will feature all the sunny goodness you can expect in an awesome indoor party, including body paint artists, island beach decor, special blackout performers, conga players and more. So enjoy the hills, snowboard or ski up a storm, and then kick back and join the après-ski fun with fellow young professional ski bunnies!

SUNDAY
Today from 3pm-10pm, the Old Montreal Chabad Community Center, along with other notable Old Montrealers, is hosting a festive Purim Party in the glorious old Royal Bank located at 360 St. Jacques Street West. It will be a pure Purim party with a carnival theme including games, prizes, DJs, open bar and a yummy sit down feast. Come celebrate the beauty of the Jewish faith no matter your background and join all our dear friends in the most talked about day event of the month. Notable will be there covering every move.

Unless you are living under a rock, everyone knows that tonight is the golden statue’s big evening. Of course we are talking about none other than Mister Oscar! The Grande soiree des Oscars taking place at the Cinémathèque Quebecoise Bistro SAQ, and will be showcasing the award show on a big screen alongside running commentary from Montreal’s hot broadcasting duo of Jean-Philippe Wauthier and Rebecca Makonnen. So dress to the nines and prepare to place your bets in their awards pool – it will be a red carpet kind of night.
