Montreal Weekender: February 17 through 19, 2012

Being that Valentine’s Day this year happened to fall on a Tuesday, we imagine you and your loved one would potentially consider romanticizing things up a little this upcoming weekend. Montreal has a plethora of things to offer young professionals in the romance genre.

Old Montreal seems to be made for lovers. so on Friday night we will start there.  With its quiet cobblestone streets, cozy restaurants and lounges, Old Montreal offers up romance at every turn. For dinner, nestle in to a quiet cozy nook in Old Montreal’s sexiest date spot at the tapas and wine bar Bocata. Here you can choose amongst a number of small sharing plates and a finely-tailored and thoughtfully acquired wine list. The ceilings are low, the lighting is dim, and the vibe is sexy.  After dinner, head, to L’Appartement down the street for some cocktails.

Wake up on Saturday and make brunch at home together (in bed, preferably). Start the day off with a walk around Old Montreal, in and out of charming boutiques and hotels. Keep busy until check-in time at Hotel Nelligan at 4pm, where you and your significant other can check in for a romantic night in one of Montreal’s most charming boutique hotels in the city. For dinner, don’t roam too far away from your room and head to Tokyo Sushi Bar a few blocks west on St. Paul. This intimate sushi restaurant offers some of the freshest sushi in Montreal. After dinner, take a stroll a couple of blocks north on Notre Dame to L’Assommoir where you can find a dark, cozy corner and enjoy cocktails for the remainder of the evening.

Order brunch in the room on Sunday morning and then head out by foot to Montreal’s authentic Scandinave Spa where you can indulge in a traditional hammam. Spend the rest of the afternoon taking a caleche ride around Old Montreal together. The drivers are well versed in the history of the area and the sound of the horses’ hooves against the cobblestones is the perfect ambiance for a romantic ride around the Old Port. After a romantic weekend together in Montreal, you will be refreshed and re-energized to get back to the day-to-day grind in the life of a busy young professional.
