Montreal Weekender: February 13 through 16, 2014

THURSDAY
There’s a new wine bar in town and it goes by the name of Anabel. Located at 361 Rue Bernard Ouest, the focus is as much on the food as it is on the wine. The idea behind Anabel was to create a space that could be enjoyed by all age groups and it delivers a fun place with great service, ambiance, staff, and outstanding food. Chef Jean-François Baril (Brontë, Globe, Del Posto Nyc, Esca and Lupa NYC) has brought an influence that’s Southern, Asian and Middle Eastern, making refined and homey dishes with ingredients that are in season. Le Paris is calling; go check it out!

The Farha Foundation is back with their beautiful annual masque ball tonight. Around 450 VIP guests will come together for an evening of entertainment and generosity in support of the Farha Foundation. Goal is to raise $300,000 during the event to help those in Quebec living with HIV/AIDS. This year’s MASKARADE will once again be the most glamorous fundraising event in Montreal. Celebrities, artists, fashionistas and CEOs will come together to dine and celebrate. The event will be emceed by Alexandre Despatie and Sonia Benezra; with the “ELIXIR” theme in full effect, guests will be whisked away to an evening filled with gourmet food, world-class entertainment and the unexpected, including their very own special ELIXIR cocktail.

FRIDAY
Get ready to boogie Valentine’s Day style! The Roxbury classic disco 54 is bringing Grammy Award winner Thelma Houston live on Stage. Get ready to go back in time to experience a fabulous night of disco classics like “Don’t Leave Me This Way” and more. Strap those platforms on, grab your honey, and boogie away in love!?What’s more romantic than Italian food and opera, right?

The Rialto heard your love cries and answered. Authentic Italian cuisine accompanied by operatic arias and popular songs performed by the chef himself are what’s on the menu tonight. This is a truly unique way to experience delicious dishes while listening to inspiring operatic arias and popular music.

How about some relax time? We always love Bota Bota in Old Montreal as a romantic spot all year around, but for V-Day they have gone all out. You can keep your honey warm with the Ice Breaker package, which includes a three-course meal and stunning views of the Montreal skyline and the St. Lawrence ice flows from your table at the floating restaurant, followed by a relaxing and romantic water circuit. Or let the music reign with a Harp package, which choreographs a couple’s massage experience with a live harp concert… the possibilities are endless.

SATURDAY
Oh, yummy! St. Henri’s beloved Rustique Pie turns one year old and they are throwing a big party to say thanks to all of their wonderful customers. Drop in anytime today to sample their new hot chocolates and eat some authentic country pie!

Come and dance the night away by celebrating 13 years of a Montreal institution, Gotsoul at Peopl. The tickets are very limited and the house will be jammed. Why? Because the king of dance music, Dennis Ferrer, will be in the house. As Ferrer goes, it seems, so does electronic music. And, as someone who’s never content to do the same thing twice, it’s clear that he’ll be staying on top for years to come, sharing his talent with all of us and mister JoJo Flores tonight!

SUNDAY
Skiers, boarders, snowmobilers, and lumberjacks will be taking over the Esplanade Financière Sun Life at Olympic Park today for the 2nd edition of BARBEGAZI, Canada’s coolest winter action sports festival. The 2014 edition will feature some of Quebec’s most authentic winter sports. A number of hip-hop, funk, and electro DJs will also be on hand spinning and entertaining while adrenaline junkies soak in this free festival.

Our friends at What’s Really Good™ are hosting an outdoor hockey game with a strict dress code in Montreal on Sunday, February 16th. Indeed, players and attendees alike are invited to dress up and channel the class and glamour of yesteryear, with gentlemanly and ladylike tweeds, wools, blazers, scarves and hats encouraged
to honor the heritage and tradition of the sport. The event will be held at 10 A.M. on Sunday, February 16th at the Stayner Park ice rink, located on the corner of Greene and Stayner streets in Westmount, Montreal. There will be a tea
