Montreal Weekender: December 2 through 4, 2011

This weekend’s Weekender is in honour of our female young professional readers who are in dire need of a big weekend out with their girlfriends. From restaurants to bars, this weekend is chalk full of hot spots where you can go and enjoy dinner, drinks and shopping with your girlfriends.

Friday night you are going to start your night off for dinner at Portus Calle, nestled in Montreal’s Portuguese neighbourhood in Mile End. This fine-lined majestic restaurant offers beautiful Portuguese dishes by female chef Helena Loureiro, a rarity within the male-oriented cooking profession. After dinner, head east on Mount Royal to Candi Bar for a night of dancing, vibrant cocktails and bowls of candy.

Saturday morning, head to Old Montreal and start your day off with brunch at Cartett. Grab one of their long communal tables with as many of your girlfriends as possible, and order from their fantastic breakfast menu. We highly recommend their scrambled eggs (runny, done the right way) with asparagus and goat cheese on top of delicious country bread. After brunch, head into the heart of Old Montreal for some shopping. Make a stop at Reborn for an edgy, more avant-garde shopping experience or try Espace Pepin for something a bit more classic and casual.

Go Greek for dinner and book your group of ladies an after 10pm table at Milos for their late menu special: choice of appetizer, main, and dessert for a mere $20. We highly suggest you try the Milos Mese platter (tamara, tzatziki, htipiti, stuffed vine leaves, olives and pita bread) and their tuna burger with daikon radish salad and zucchini fries. For a late night dance party, head over to Velvet in the Old Port amongst the hipster crowd.

Sunday, start off your day at Griffentown in the neighbourhood of the same name. They have an awesome eggs benedict and an out-of-this-world huevos rancheros.  Spend the afternoon at Spa St. James getting pampered with manicures, pedicures and facials, and then finish off the day with a final dinner at Kaizen Sushi. Book the back room private bar and have sushi and cocktails until you are ready to call it a night. We recommend ordering their foie gras tempura.
