Montreal Weekender: August 8 through 11, 2013

THURSDAY
A gorgeous new spot perfect for that much-needed notable 5 a 7 is opening its doors today. FAB BOSS proudly presents the official debut of Decadent Thursdays at Montreal’s most spacious terrace at Le Cinq, featuring the lovely DJ Miss Fafa Khan, the smooth as silk DJ Andy Couchman, and funkafied DJ Angel Morales headlining the night in honour of his own birthday. AQUAhydrate will be in full effect hydrating all the guests as they indulge in the fine cuisine of recent Birks Cafe Chef, Maxime Delmont.

Another 5 a 7 ?is being hosted tonight courtesy of Brisset Beer company at local Old Montreal YP hangout Bevo Bar & Pizzeria. This is a bit of a different spin on 5 a 7 as the focus here is cold, yummy beer. A major hangover therefore shouldn’t be of worry and neither should slurred speech when you’re trying to hit on that person next to you. The Brisset team will be on premise offering their products, discussing entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity, and of course socializing. Cheers, and let’s have a cold one!

FRIDAY
For the 20th edition of Montreal’s Italian Week, the National Congress of Italian-Canadians invites you to come enjoy the various activities from in Rivières-des-Prairies. Events will be held in front of Maria Auxiliatrice Church and the neighbouring area. A huge staple in the Montreal summer scene, Italian Week has something for everyone including a Federico Fellini Film Festival, CuisineOpera (a chef that, yes, sings Opera), fashion shows, guided tours of Little Italy, sports, a classic car showcase, and so much more. Viva Italia!

The Under The Influence of Music tour is coming to Montreal! With hip-hop mega stars Wiz Khalifa and A$AP Rocky on stage taking over at Parc Jean-Drapeau today, this will be one of the most hype concerts of the summer and a good carry-over from Osheaga. Among other artists in attendance are BoB, Trinidad Jame$, Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era and Berner. A hip-hop head’s dream team!

SATURDAY
Montreal-based artist and world traveller Chris Dyer will be showing a grip of his original skate art for only one night at Ledep. A full feature documentary has just been released on DVD about his life and works alongside a 260-page coffee table art book. Need more convincing? Free beer and a screening of Satori Movement’s new video KENSHO will be taking place at the event, and you know with sponsors like Vans, Expose, Creation, Satori and PBR this will be a good summer time.

Our boys at SaintWoods are back with another installment of their Pop-Up Parties. Inspired by the monotony of the average weekend, these parties mean to push boundaries and bring a sense of excitement and adventure back to nightlife by showcasing new music in unconventional venues. To maximize the level of awesomeness, SaintWoods has taken the liberty of making this event open bar for only $30 all night! See ya there… for real.

weekend

SUNDAY
For the third year in a row, Montreal takes on Oriental colours and celebrates the meeting of cultures from here and elsewhere during the Orientalys Festival. For three days and three nights, Jecques-Cartier Quay crosses three continents and brings festivalgoers to Morocco, Japan, Egypt and China, amongst others. It’s a free event with a rich and original program featuring music, traditional and contemporary dance, as well as calligraphy, percussions, henna, dance, oriental cuisine workshops and more!

On the totally opposite side of things, the Heavy MTL music festival is taking over Parc Jean-Drapeau and bringing all of the city’s long-haired, metal-loving head bangers. The fifth edition will feature “Heavy” hitters like Megadeth, Danzig, Avenged Sevenfold, Rob Zombie, Godsmack and other bands your kids probably shouldn’t listen to. Dr. Martens strongly suggested.
