Montreal Weekender: August 28 to September 1, 2014

Whether it’s boozy brunches you’re after or arts, entertainment, fashion and food are more your style this weekend, we’ve got a mix of all the notable happenings on Montreal’s social scene all wrapped up in this edition of the Weekender…

THURSDAY
Mont-Royal Avenue will turn into a huge open-air flea market this weekend. Shops will extend their hours while artists present their skills to the public through various disciplines. Here’s the notable part: There will be a group of painters creating a large painting, transforming the avenue into an enormous outdoor artist studio. Shop and art? Yes, please!

Société des arts technologiques [SAT] will be home to the hardcore techno music of Michael Amato tonight, who is hands down one of today’s most talented and innovative French electro artists. His nickname is “The Hacker,” and for that alone, we’ll be there.

FRIDAY
Pop Art Creole will be educating and promoting the unique contributions of cultural communities tonight at Galerie 203.

Enjoy the arts, entertainment, fashion and food that are as diversified as the event itself. Public figures, artists and entrepreneurs will be on premise networking and helping raise money for the establishment of a fund for entrepreneurs with cultural and artistic backgrounds and visions.

Suite 701 will be hosting the “Elegance” rooftop party today, kicking off at 11 pm and continuing until 3am in true Montreal style. DJs Fafa Khan and GARDY GIRAULT will be bringing the beats on the turntables.

SATURDAY
Hometown sweethearts Arcade Fire are set to perform the final show of their Reflektor tour today at Parc Jean-Drapeau featuring guests Spoon + Dan Deacon. They are taking a break – it might be a long one – after this, so make sure you scoop some tickets and join the pack. As always, formal attire or costume is required.

Still haven’t checked out Barcelona’s famed Tapas 24 in the Old Port? Well, it’s time to get Spanish and fill up on some of the best food from one of the spiciest and sexiest corners of the world. Michelin Star chef Carles Abellan picked our fair city as the first international location for this world-famous establishment and rightfully so – we are just too lovable.

SUNDAY
Old Montreal’s Victoria Pier is closing this weekend and throwing a serious bash featuring the music of Perseus. With two outdoor beach bars, a state-of-the-art sound system and a notable restaurant lead by our friend Dan Geltner, this is the spot to be.

And we’ve arrived at another boozy brunch, this time at the gorgeous JARGO. Eye Religion is hosting their biggest and the best #LeBrunch to end the summer season right with music by Deejay Arabika, Toddy Flores, Manny Occean and DJ Yao. Let’s not forget the delicious brunch menu.
