Montreal Weekender: April 6 through 8, 2012

This weekend it’s all about living in Montreal…outside. Montreal is expecting a balmy, sunny weekend, so why not try to do all of your socializing, eating and drinking on a patio or terrace?

Start off with drinks after work on Friday on the rooftop of Suite 701 in the Place Des Arms Hotel.  Bring a jacket but expect nice weather…nice enough to have a hot shot or two on the roof overlooking the entire city of Montreal. After drinks, head downstairs for dinner at one of Montreal’s best restaurants, AIX.  And when we say downstairs, we actually mean downstairs, because this restaurant is also located in the same hotel. For more drinks, head to Cherry in Old Montreal for some late night dancing.

On Saturday, put on some good walking shoes, grab a granola bar for breakfast, and head downtown for a coffee and pastry at Cafe Myriade. After coffee, head to Crescent Street and grab an early seat on the terrace at Thursday’s pub and take in the sun, some beer, and people watching. As you start to get hungry, set out on foot a bit east and drop in at Fauberg Mall for the new Grumman78 taco bar that just recently opened this week. Now you can get the best tacos in Montreal anytime you want (and not just wait for a festival or taco party announcement). For dinner, call in ahead of time and grab a bite on the terrace at Faros for the best Greek food in the city.  here are only two tables on the terrace, so you have to ask for it in advance. For drinks afterward, head to Buvette Chez Simon for some wine.

For brunch on Sunday you must head to one of the best middle eastern restaurants in the city, Rumi, in Outrement for their take on a traditional middle eastern breakfast. Our favourite items are their date and cheese omelette and their vegetarian tagine. This brunch will blow you away, we promise. Afterwards, grab a Bixi (yes, the Bixis are finally back for the spring season) and do a bit of riding around in the Mile End and Plateau. For dinner, how about some jerk crab and lobster poutine at the bar at Garde Manger? Top off the evening with an early cocktail at Vauvert in the St. Paul Hotel.
