Montreal Weekender: April 18 through 21, 2013

THURSDAY
Let’s start Thursday night on an artsy note with the opening of the solo show by Lorne Miller, “And the Beat Goes On,” at Galerie 203. Lorne Miller is a Montreal-born artist who has been active in the art world for the past 30 years. You can expect a collection of still life and portraits combining acrylic paint with the old world craft of metal gilding. His technique uses luminous colours infused with the brilliant textures and lusters of gold, silver and copper metals. If a visual experience is what you want, make sure you pop by!

Montreal’s liveliest band, Bran Van 3000, will be featuring their fun beats at the Solidari-Show at Club Soda tonight. The Solidari-Show concert is part of a 2013 fundraising campaign for Le Sac A Dos, an organization that strives for social and economic integration of people experiencing homelessness.?A cool fact? Le Sac à Dos Artistic Director is the singer-composer and activist artist Paul Cargnello, who will open the concert tonight. A notable cause full of great music and people.

FRIDAY
The most anticipated young professionals event of the week takes place tonight and we couldn’t be more excited! Designed to raise awareness of the MAC (Musée d’art contemporain de Montreal) among a new generation of leaders, Les Printemps du Mac presents Vertige. The sixth edition of this unique event will unfold in a MAC imaginatively transformed for the evening.?The night is expecting around 1000 young professionals who will enjoy an evening of cultural and culinary discoveries along with art and musical performances. Guests are invited to visit the exhibits while sampling the many delectable gastronomic creations. ?A party that’s not to be missed!

Montreal’s high society, a group or class of persons that apparently enjoy superior social status and are amongst the fashionable elite, are hosting another one of their eclectic soirees tonight at Cabaret Underworld. Featuring live acts by Static Gold, OH NO! YOKO and the QUILLS, alongside DJs Kaytranada and High Klassified, you can also expect a munchies bar, Hype Energy Girls, trippy light installations and some freaky drink called Bull’s Frog from Dubai (don’t ask, we have no idea). Oh yeah, we believe they expect you to dress according to their themes…here are some ideas: Eyes Wide Shut, James Spader in Pretty in Pink, suit and tie, Pablo Escobar…basically a free-for-all. Enjoy.

SATURDAY
Another crazy-cool charity show takes place tonight at Theatre Plaza. Bodypaint Illuminati features Math Boylan and friends for the sound of hearing benefit. The audience will also be treated to unique visual delights as Boylan pursues his goal of painting ‘2300 things I want to Hear’ live accompanied by dancers Raven Styles, Lolita Blanca and Lady Lucidez.

Now, let’s get down with some swag! The Deeprave, Swag, Drysdale Group are bringing BEΛR//FVCE for his Beat-tape Tour. This uber-talented 19-year-old has made a name for himself producing and being influenced by artists like Ginuwine, D’Angelo, Cyril Hahn, and more. He has gained notoriety for his Remixes of A$AP ROCKY and Waka Flocka, and will surely tear the floor up tonight at Clubhouse. High-tops allowed.

SUNDAY
With the weather getting warmer, a little water fight doesn’t sound like a bad idea. The Hype Energy Fireman Wash-O-Thon is on today from 8am to 5pm. Come get your car washed by firefighter students of Montmorency Collège, where all the funds raised will support a humanitarian cause in Burkina Faso. While you wait for your ride to get squeaky clean, you’ll be able to hang with the Hype Energy Team and firefighters in-the-making, which could only mean one thing: Sunday fun day is underway.

With your car all sparkly, drive over to the Matinee party in characteristic Little Italy.?The scene will be set at Brama Trattoria Moderna, Montreal’s hottest new Italian eatery, where they mix the finest of the classic with the best of the contemporary, meaning that the foodie in you will be oh-so satisfied; after all, Italians make some of the best chefs! Add a glass of bubbly, music by Toddy Flores and Danny Torrence, and you have yourself una celebrazione!
