Montreal Weekender: April 11 through 14, 2013

THURSDAY
Ready for a huge smorgasbord of the fashion kind? Need to stock up your closet for spring at very reasonable prices? Then you’re in luck! The Big Fashion Sale by Quebec Designers, aka Braderie De Mode Quebecoise, is back at the Bonsecours Market from Thursday, April the 11th, to Sunday April 14th!?With more than 130 designers, including Mackage, Soia & Kyo, Martin Lim, Barila and more, and discounts up to 80%, this truly is a shopaholic’s haven. Some notable advice? Wear comfortable flats and thin layers – change rooms are scarce and it tends to become a bit of a stampede in there!

At night, slither your dancing self to the Tensnake show at Le Belmont. Presented by Neon & Triangle, this electro producer from Hamburg, Germany, who emerged in the mid-2000s with a disco-influenced style and brought us skinny-jean bopping hits like “Comacat,” will be rocking Montrealers all night. Opening acts and local faves Shaydakiss and A-Rock will be on the ones and twos hyping the crowd up before the Snake takes the stage. Good times all around!

FRIDAY
Continuing the shopping spree this weekend, as Old Montreal local Travis Taddeo (who we recently featured here) will be hosting his exclusive Open House, the Spring Edition, showcasing his new studio set up, new spring and summer collection for men and women, as well as past pieces that are still timeless and classic. Go visit him and his fab pieces at #400 209 St. Paul Ouest today from 3pm to 9pm and Saturday from 12pm to 7pm.

The creative forces of students from LaSalle College behind the event planning conglomerate of evenMTL are hosting The Headrush heARTs for Autism event, a creative arts charity event in support of autism awareness. The Headrush “heARTs for Autism” charity event will involve the exhibition and auctioning off of various works of art while incorporating contemporary dance choreography. Each ticket purchased provides you with a free drink, hors d’oeuvres and is also a free entry into their raffle. Support these notable young professionals in this amazing cause, they’ve earned it!

SATURDAY
Feeling spaced out? The recent opening of the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium is a milestone in the creation of Montreal Space for Life, the first space in the world dedicated to humankind and nature and the largest concentration of natural science museums in Canada. Live a completely fresh experience of astronomy. We strongly suggest checking out the “Show from the Earth to the Stars” in their Milky Way Theatre where you will embark on a thrilling virtual journey taking you thousands of light years from Earth, all the way to the stars and beyond! From going to space to travelling back in time, the Rialto presents Legends of Rock n Roll with three acts bringing you to the days where boys carried girls’ books and varsity jackets were the fashion statement of every neighbourhood. The show will feature the Phil Spector-produced girl group, The Crystals, Freddy ‘Boom Boom’ Cannon and Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame’s The Shirelles, an all-star line-up in an all-star venue for a unique night out.

SUNDAY
Feeling charitable? We have the perfect cause for you to support as the 3rd Annual Alesias Magnolias Fundraiser benefiting the Montreal Children’s Hospital Cardiology Department takes place today at Centre de congrès Palace in Laval. Last year 1500 people attended, $52,000 was raised for the Cardiology floor in The Montreal Children’s Hospital and a new, heart monitoring machine and a private patient room on the Cardiology floor at the New MUHC Super Hospital were purchased. This time around, the goal is $400,000, and it is certainly reachable with a lot of support. There will be plenty of food on premise, performances, face painting and other fun stuff for all ages!

If you missed out the first time around, the Urban “Cabane a Sucre” 2nd edition presented by Fab Boss is coming to Restaurant Globe once again!
