Montreal burger lovers, unite! Your dream event has arrived and it starts tomorrow. Montreal Burger Week is the ultimate interactive eating event. Why? Because after doing a city food tour, savouring the best Montreal has to offer burger-wise at special prices only offered this week, you can document your yay or nay feedback on the festival website. The whole scope here is for Montrealers to discover burger joints they never even knew existed and to challenge our city as to what makes for the most delectable burger out there. More than 30 Montreal restaurants from vegetarian eateries to spiffy locales will serve their king burgers competing to win the hearts of Montreal’s burger-eating community.
But what defines a burger? For all us kitchen simpletons, a burger is just a piece of beef slabbed between a bun. What we didn’t know is that there is much more depth and choice once your burger week hopping begins. If you’re a seafood lover, you can indulge in a salmon slider or a chicken tikka Sandwich at an Indian takeout spot as MBW’s official blogger Na’eem Adam from the famous Le Méchant Mangeur noted. This gives a whole new spin on things and will allow you dig deeper into how multifaceted this dish can really be. MBW’s criteria to all the Montreal eateries involved was simple: they are to concoct “two pieces of bread with some protein in the middle” – that leaves a whole new world of imagination to what these chefs will be surprising us with.
What’s especially cool about this festival is that it allows the public to get interactive on their website. If you ever dreamed of being a food critic, here’s your chance. There will be two categories, Montreal’s Best Peoples Burger and Montreal’s Best Judges Burger. One will be chosen by the people using the official website; you will be able to vote for what you found was your top-notch burger experience. You can vote once a day for as many locations as you want. The Judges Burger will include a panel of celebrity Montreal judges, including pro athletes…and we know how hungry those dudes get. It will be interesting to see the comparison between both categories and who comes out on top.
After all is said and eaten, the two winners will host the BWM grand finale 5 to 9 free-for-all, an event that will provide free burgers and drinks for anyone that pops in.
Once our gluttonous sins have been committed, the team is planning to organize a run on Mount Royal on September 6 to make us feel a bit better about ourselves. A team effort always kick starts our motivation, doesn’t it?
