Montecito: Adelaide’s New Celebrity Backed Restaurant

Meatballs, Ghostbusters, Kindergarten Cop.

Those are just three of the 20 titles Ivan Reitman has directed. And you can soon add Montecito (299 Adelaide Street West) to that list.

Teaming up with famed American chef Jonathan Waxman, Montecito will soon be bringing come culinary class to Adelaide W. – more specifically, to the space directly behind TIFF Bell Lightbox. In fact, the private alley between the two that leads to a private staircase that can be taken to a private dining space (did we mention it’s private?) ensure that Montecito will play host to any number of stars when they hit the town for TIFF this fall.

12,000 sq. feet and nearly $10 million suggest that Montecito will likely be nothing short of spectacular. The two-storey space will boast no less than seven separate dining zones including a lower level bar with floor to ceiling windows that can be pushed completely aside to leave no separation between the inside of the building and the 60-seat patio space on Adelaide. In-floor heating, a state-of-the-art sound system, and aesthetic touches handpicked by Reitman (we’ve seen the samples) suggest no expense has been spared in an effort to create the perfect dining or event atmosphere.

Waxman has made his name as a pioneer of California cuisine so you can expect fresh and clean dishes that change on a daily basis and are comprised of locally sourced ingredients. Indeed, Waxman places heavy emphasis on his love for Canadian produce.

While the restaurant is still under heavy construction, GM Jimson Bienenstock tells us he expects to open in just over a month. He adds: “I’m under no pressure to open, but I am under a lot of pressure to open well.”

Welcome to Hollywood North 2.0.
