Former Montréal Canadiens and Florida Panthers defensemen Mike Weaver is a new entrepreneur with CoachThem, his new innovative app whose designed to revolutionize the way that coaches and associations draw, share and store drills. Weaver’s goal is to improve the coaching experience for all levels of sports.
Do you know where you got your drive from?
I’m a former NHL player, so I always had drive in me . Being told I couldn’t make it to the NHL was my obsession! Being 5’9″ and a defensive defenseman, I proved size was just a number in a time where that number meant so much.
How do you stay self-motivated?
I wake up at 3:30am everyday and have for the last 2 years, not because I had to or thought I should do it. I do it because my body jumps out of bed with excitement to begin the day!
What would you say is your preferred way to network?
I love people! I love talking to our users and talking about our platform. I love sports and love hands-on teaching our great game, but what I love most of all is what CoachThem can do for them.
How would you describe your process for deepening relationships?
I focus on interacting with our coaches using the app and I love talking to people and getting feedback. Your product’s community are always the best ambassadors.
What are your preferred tools for keeping organized?
I love Podio for all the day-to-day. We use HubSpot and we just have been introduced through Notable to Microsoft Teams!
Who has been your mentor in helping you find success?
Cory York with WebWare, Carli Posner with Notable Life helps me with sales and producing our commercial and tutorials, and Nick Kenny with Turnstyle.
What social issue does your organization raise funds and/or awareness for?
CoachThem recently went to Eabametoong, a remote First Nations village in Northern Ontario to deliver hockey gear and coaching tools to the first all-girls hockey team. Its really important to me to give back where I can and help to develop the next generation of hockey stars.
How and where do you continue to learn?
I wear a lot of hats but realizing that I can’t do everything is key. As our product evolves new problems transpire and need to be solved. I’m not the same CEO I was when I started! Every day is an opportunity to grow and learn.
Do you have a fitness ritual that you live by?
As a former professional athlete, my life revolved around keeping my body to it’s highest fitness. Now I’ve decided to take a little break from a regular fitness routine but I do play hockey frequently and very active on a daily basis.
How do you feed your soul?
I work with a transformational life coach who helps clear any blocks I have. Whether it’s in thought or belief she helps to clear a pathway. I practice daily meditation so I feel aligned, balenced and secure in my decision making.
How would you describe the eating ritual that makes you feel most powerful?
My wife Rhianna is really into clean eating and that’s something that is very important to me, and our family. But don’t get me wrong, I am always happy to indulge in chocolate and ice cream.
Who is your favorite personality to follow on YouTube?
I follow Vasek Popisil. Love the behind the scenes access he gives to his fans. I enjoy watching athletes creating a brand for themselves and not always forcusing on the game, but life after the game. Also, Elon Musk. I love how boldly Musk is breaking down boundaries in every industry he touches.
What type of content do you find most compelling on Instagram?
I’m Rhianna Weaver‘s Instagram Husband and proud of it!
What lifestyle brand would you say shares your values most?
Apple. I’m a tech guy, always have been! I love how simple Apple products are with design and usability.

Sushi and Indian food. My mouth is watering now!
Where is your favourite place to unwind?
Watching a movie in our living room with my family.
