Next Thursday, February 25th, a truly rare event will transform the Montreal Science Centre.
And you’re going to want to emerge from hibernation for this one.
Hosted by the Toronto-based ibellieve Foundation, A Rare Evening: A Touch of Red is an Old Hollywood-themed charity gala that benefits a rare cause, MPS II (Hunter syndrome), and other related rare diseases.
As you may recall, the Toronto event – which featured NBA star Steve Nash as its ambassador – was featured as one of the city’s best events of the fall.
Following suit, some of the most celebrated stars and influencers – including world-renowned business mogul, Shark Tank star, and owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban – will grace the photo-worthy space along with 300 of Montreal’s most influential tastemakers in support of the iBellieve Foundation.
For those in the dark, MPS II is a rare and critical disorder that results in declined cardiac function, obstructive airway disease, joint distortion, and enlarged organs. Cuban will deliver a keynote speech, addressing the efforts of the iBellieve Foundation, as well as the importance of prioritizing rare disease research.
Hosted by TV personality and founder of Le Cahier blog, Camille DG, and Jay Walker of Global TV and MTL Rocks on CHOM 97.7, the soirée will present the city’s most illustrious talents, including DJ YO-C, official tour DJ for comedian Sugar Sammy, as well as burlesque performer, Miss Sugarpuss – also known as Emmy award-winning voice actress Holly Gauthier Frankel.
Guests are encouraged to wear red in support of the cause – whether that literally means a “touch of red” thanks to a pocket square or tie, or a photo-worthy red cocktail dress.
Of course, guests won’t leave hungry at this event: the legendary Schwartz’ deli, Léché Desserts, Taverne Gaspar, Burgundy Lion (a Notable Award winner), Tuck Shop, Ristorante Beatrice’, and Bars Boutique will also be on hand to offer guests a gastronomical experience reflective of Montreal.

Spearheading the event is the founder of iBellieve Foundation, the inspirational Simon Ibell – if you see him, introduce yourself. He is one of 40 people in Canada, and approximately 2,000 worldwide, born with Hunter syndrome. He has traveled the world searching for a cure, and in turn, has become a champion for the entire rare disease community.
