Leeja Murphy: Today’s Notable Young Entrepreneur

Leeja Murphy is the President and Founder of Agence Pink Marketing, and a true Sagittarius/Aries; a mix of Irish and French, all measuring up to a bilingual, dynamic, punctual, fun and very hard-working individual. As she likes to to say, “the sky is NOT the limit”…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
I promote companies or individuals via editorial coverage, establishing contacts with the media (newspapers, online, TV, radio), build PR campaigns for clients, propose marketing strategies and organize events. I also help clients manage their personal image. My mission is to contribute in promoting the success of companies, events and individuals varying in different industries, such as automotive, design, fashion, health, hotels, jewelry, law, financial firms, restaurants, and sports.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
At first I wanted to be a lawyer, but while in university I decided to change paths and study communications. I love the drive and dynamics. Every project is motivating and diverse… it’s refreshing! So, I started my own PR company 12 years ago and here I am today.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part is really the communication aspect, the interaction I have with people. For example, I love sending out a press release in anticipation for all those instant media replies; I feel they are as eager and excited as I am about specific news. The most challenging part is to always obtain the best articles and have as many media outlets spread out the news. “The world is not enough!”

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In a galaxy far, far away. Live long and prosper!

What does success look like to you?
Remain and carry on the business for a long period of time! Starting a business is easy, but reality success is when you have demonstrated that you truly have acquired the skills to manage your business, substantially increase and maintain your profitability level every year, and simultaneously preserve a great image.

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
To be honest, I have several, and for different reasons. I am very proud of the work I am able to do every day and of the clients I have. I feel very privileged. I have the opportunity to work, travel and live experiences thanks to clients such as Bentley Montreal, Decarie Motors, Montreal-Ottawa-Québec City Comiccon, restaurant Labarake, Terrasses Bonsecours, Montreal Burlesque Festival, Orly Cuisine and others. To see the amazing media results following an event or great reviews makes it memorable every time… and makes my clients and I very happy!

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Work hard and with passion. « L’avenir appartient à ceux qui se lève tôt! »
Having a mentor is always a privilege. Ask questions, seek answers.

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
I proudly support the “Fondation Collège Bourget,” my alma mater. I thoroughly enjoyed and loved my high school experience as well as the knowledge I obtained from that establishment. I am also a member of their committee and we support students by offering scholarships and helping them pursue their dreams.

What to you is notable?
A person who distinguishes themselves to be an inspiration for others; to have noteworthy leadership skills and professionalism, as well as being capable to manage and have a positive personal life.  Notable is always being kind and truthful but also having the passion and courage for continued success.

BlackBerry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
BlackBerry; laptop, tablet, you name it!
