Kermit the Frog Has a New Girlfriend and the Internet is Very Angry About It

Last month, one of our favourite couples broke up – and people weren’t happy about it.

Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have been together for as long as any of us can remember, after all.

Apparently, Kermit the Frog has now traded in his longtime girlfriend for a younger, thinner, model. That’s right, in case you haven’t heard, Kermit has a new girlfriend, and her name is Denise. Pictures of what some are calling the “homewrecking pig” surfaced yesterday.

And as those pictures hit the internet, some people raised eyebrows, while others were simply pissed.

Kermit has been pretty damn lucky to have a powerful, charismatic woman to keep him on his toes after all these years. Not to mention, despite her quick wit, Kermit definitely didn’t exactly live in her shadow, and consistently got more screen time than his once better half.

Anyway, it turns out Miss Piggy has a lot of supporters out there.

Though we’re talking about fictional characters here (sorry to burst your bubble), people are upset in a very real way. Some claim that Miss Piggy was portrayed by producers and directors as a crazy, violent, and egotistical woman (see: the typical “crazy ex-girlfriend”), while Kermit was portrayed as a sensitive, easygoing guy who had to endure both her and “being green.” Boohoo.

So, naturally, people are made to feel bad for poor Kermit. But they shouldn’t. Because when it comes to the breakup department, Kermit has trouble keeping it classy. Case in point, he wrote this last month after the breakup:

It can be tough to work with your ex … It can be tough to be the executive producer on your ex’s late-night TV show, especially when your ex is a pig. I don’t know whether any of you have ever dated pigs.

And the fact that Kermit has replaced her with a younger, thinner model is so typical. So Affleck. So boring. Perhaps the producers left some of their forward thinking in the 80s.

Also typical is the fact that Kermit is now denying that Denise is his girlfriend.

“While I prefer to keep my personal life private, this is Hollywood, so who am I kidding?” Kermit said in a post Tuesday night. “It is true that I am dating again. However, at this time no one woman–pig or otherwise–is my official ‘new girlfriend.’ We are simply close friends.”

The good news it that Miss Piggy, an award-winning feminist icon, continues to stay bold and strong – she’ll be just fine without him, and has already revved up her social media flirting game.

Coincidentally, Kermit’s announcement comes in perfect timing to draw attention to his new show…
