Karine and Jeremy of New Social Class: Today’s Notable Young Entrepreneurs

Today’s Notable Young Entrepreneurs are Karine and Jeremy of NewSocialClass.com, an online boutique catering to cool, trendy and young-at-heart ladies and gentlemen that has become one of the hottest online stores out of Montreal right now…

Elevator Pitch: Describe your job in a nutshell.
As a mother of three and a dentist by day, I feel I am truly the modern day Jill of all trades, which has a huge influence on my buying choices for the online boutique. I do the buying and merchandising, while Jeremy takes care of online marketing and running the website. He does more the behind-the-scenes day-to-day while I am the face and run our social media. We are very lucky to be able to work together – we always have so much fun.

Why did you start working at your company? What was the inspiration for this career route?
We always knew we wanted to start a business together and thought a store like ours is harder to find in Canada. We wanted to bring US and Australian brands to Canadian homes and figured the time is now for the e-commerce market.

What is the best part of what you do on a day-to-day basis? The most challenging part?
The best part of the day-to-day is researching new, up and coming brands and doing the buying. I basically get to spend hours online shopping, which is awesome! I really try to buy pieces that I love and that I know my customers would love too. My goal is to be a household name within the next year. The most challenging part is storing the inventory; we are always getting in new pieces and new lines. We are constantly updating our website to stay fresh.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
We see ourselves expanding, of course! We would love to maybe open up a storefront one day, who knows. I also know my daughter would love to join our team, so that would be fun.

What does success look like to you?
Success is doing what you love, surrounded by the ones you love. I know that sounds cheesy but it is true. If you are not having fun, why do it?

What is the most memorable milestone in your career?
The official launch of our website on our mom’s birthday: October 24th, 2013.

Do you have any advice for other young professionals?
Don’t count the hours, make the hours count. If you are determined to succeed, you will. I also hope to show other young women that one can have it all; a loving family, successful dentist practice, and now an e-store!

Do you support any charities? If so, which one(s) and why is that important to you?
We support many charities (CJA and Montreal Children’s Foundation), but we are most passionate about helping the children. So many children suffer from abuse, poor living conditions and diseases, and to me children are the most precious things in the world. Having worked at the Montreal Children’s Hospital for eight years and having three of my own opened up my heart to them forever.

What to you is notable?
To me, my brand is notable. The fun times with my family and all the work I do to be able to live how I live is notable. I am grateful for all I have and for all our loyal supporters.

Blackberry, iPhone, Android, or Other?
Definitely iPhone. Best. Photo apps. Ever.
