Just Opened: Montauk Sofa

This weekend our Notable team celebrated in designer-style…interior desigener style, that is. We joined several hundred other well-heeled guests in celebration of the grand opening of Montauk Sofa’s showroom in Gastown.

Comfy duds abandoned at home, we dolled-it-up and headed out to 228 Abbott Street and found ourselves before a massive, modern, multi-level loft packed with partygoers. One thing was certainly clear: this was not your average sofa soiree.

Montauk Sofa is renowned for their enviro-friendly approach to high-end (yet) functional design. Eye-catching evidence of this was artfully displayed throughout the multi-tiered space, with guests comfortably seated and clustered throughout.

Greeted by a glass of champagne, we struck out on a mission to mingle amongst a flavourful mix of local business owners, media and friends before hunting down Montauk owner, Danny Chartier to learn more about this eco-chic custom sofa design company. Our candid chat revealed Montauk Sofa’s commitment to going green. Inspired by the seemingly organic simplicity of their design work, the company hopes to obtain a zero carbon footprint in the near future.

Newfound insight in-hand, we headed upstairs for a bird’s eye view of the sofa scene below and landed a sweet perch next to the DJ.

As the music coursed throughout the space, guests happily noshed on a never-ending supply of fresh-shucked oysters, jumbo prawns, as well as other fine fixings (courtesy of Cork & Fin) with bubbles generously at the ready to wash it down. It was a good thing too…that’s exactly what the doctor ordered when the award-winning host of CNN’s Just Imagine (and TED contributor), Ross Lovegrove popped by.

Check him and other party-goers out in our gallery and you’ll understand why we think Montauk’s move to Gastown is so-fa, so good.
