Gastown is host to a vibrant community of businesses, galleries, restaurants and bistros – and is now home to Milano Coffee Roasters‘ flagship store and cafe. We stopped by last week to take a peek as they welcomed friends and media to celebrate their opening – the paint had barely dried and resin was still setting atop coffee-inspired words set in the floorboards, but we were indeed impressed.
Milano has been wooing Vancouverites with their freshly roasted and ground coffee selections for decades, with original owner Francesco Curatolo importing both Italian coffee as well as a strong sense of craftsmanship to the city back in 1984. The Milano Coffee Roasters business has grown exponentially with a bevy of different boutiques throughout the Lower Mainland and an uncompromising dedication to the art of quality coffee all available (on tap) at their tasting bar. Imagine that: Espresso…on tap! Can we way, dangerous?
If you’re feeling hungry, fear not: Milano features a selection of traditional coffee-house fare as well as delectable goodies from local bakery Butter Baked Goods that will satiate your cravings. Tuck into a good book, or take advantage of their free WiFi in their cozy/chic lounge, perfect for people-watching.
Milano’s new Gastown location is meant to double as a great spot for unwinding, or getting ‘wound-up’ (as it were) prior to a night out – they acquired a coveted liquor licence and feature a DJ table toward the back of this sleekly designed space.
