Just Opened: HousexGuest

We’ve got a brand new spot to laud in Gastown, and laud it we shall! HousexGuest just opened at 200 – 332 Water Street, and this new spot is fantastic by YVR, and Notable, standards.

The atmosphere is dark and chic, a perfect mesh of eclectic – think garage sale sophisticated. Skull motif throughout, old antiqued suitcases and doctor bags, vaulted gold vermeil ceilings, reindeer skulls adorn the walls, rich leather seating, typographic visuals…it’s a total hipster hideaway guised with the feeling of an old school underground gentlemen’s club.

HousexGuest’s menu is as eclectic as its interior: duck donair (yes, we wrote that right), chilli dogs, coffee smoked rare beef carpaccio, popcorn (with caramelized miso and togarashi, not your doused-in-butter movie theatre variety), Croque Madame, huevos rancheros…The selection is varied yet justifiable, and HousexGuest has done a superb job of mixing charm and whimsy in the preparation of their dishes.

Think of HousexGuest as that new hot spot whose fire won’t let out anytime soon. Amazing DJ talent will pulse throughout the space in the nights, and Sunday brunch will be appropriately dim for those Saturday night hangovers. Not to mention the library-esque lower room that could be used for private parties…This is one venue that will continue to impress and will likely find itself being tossed into regular YP rotation.

HousexGuest is open Wednesday through Saturday nights starting at 5pm, and for Sunday brunch. Check out HousexGuest out on Facebook or Twitter to stay up-to-date.
