Jon Stewart and His Wife are Opening Up an Animal Sanctuary

Jon Stewart spent 16 years as the host of the Daily Show trying to help humans; educating, humouring, and riling them up them about some of the most pressing issues that define life on this planet.

Now a bearded, gentler, just-past-middle-age man, Stewart has shifted post-show biz focus towards helping animals.

After two years of prepping a 12-acre piece of New Jersey farmland, Stewart and his wife, Tracey, are set to open an animal sanctuary that will house dozens of rescue cows, sheep, turkeys, goats, and other animals – going from dealing with metaphorical “bullshit” to actual bullshit, as Rolling Stone writes.

“I’m a little uncomfortable. I’ve spent the last 20 years immersed in the world of Washington politics and the media landscape, so I don’t know how to deal necessarily with people who have empathy,” said Stewart at a gala event over the weekend about building the project together with his wife and the Farm Sanctuary group.

While it’s amusing to see Stewart in normcore attire on a farm, the mission is mostly the fulfillment of Tracey’s life-long dream.

“If everyone did a bit more, if they fell in love a little bit more, so much could happen,” she said. “It doesn’t have to be going vegan. You can advocate for them. You can show tenderness. You can play music for them. I really hope people can connect with animals the way most of us did as children.” And if you don’t eat them, you could prevent cancer.

Just look at this pig and tell us you don’t want to play music and be tender with it:
