“It’s been a big week for the LGBT community,” says John Oliver to kick off the most recent episode of his HBO show Last Week Tonight.
Indeed it has.
In fact, it’s been a big week for all communities – even the ones still offensively ignorant to the civil rights of the transgender community.
Turns out a lot of people have no idea how to deal with the fact that some “have a gender identity that differs from the one they were assigned at birth.” One weatherman’s on-air grappling with the concept is truly baffling; “what does that even mean!?”
As is always the case, Oliver offers brilliant answers to seemingly straightforward issues that large segments of our planet’s population can’t wrap their head around. Issues like, “what do I call these people?”
