Leading Woman CEO Lost in Bermuda Triangle Plane Crash

A New York City CEO is missing after her plane vanished over the Bermuda Triangle. On May 16, the U.S. Coast Guard issued a press release saying that Jennifer Blumin, 40, the CEO of the Skylight Group, was missing along with her two sons, Phineas and Theodore, as well as man named Nathan Ulrich, 52.

Authorities believe they have found debris from the plane carrying Blumin, her two sons and Nathan Ulrich, the U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday.

Material recovered from the sea east of the island of Eleuthera was determined to have come from a twin-engine MU-2B aircraft, the type that air traffic control lost contact with as it travelled from Puerto Rico to Florida on Monday, said Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Kelly, a Coast Guard spokesman.

About Jennifer Blumin

Blumin founded the Skylight Group in 2004, a company specializing in converting untraditional spaces for high-end parties. In addition to properties in Midtown Manhattan, Blumin’s Skylight Group also owns spaces in Brooklyn and has offices in San Francisco.

Blumin’s clients includ Rag & Bone, Ralph Lauren as well as Hollywood mega-agency IMG Entertainment. In a New York Times feature, Blumin said that in 2001 her first job was turning Jonathan Leitersdorf’s apartment into a space for Gisele Bundchen to do a Victoria Secret photo shoot. Jay-Z booked Post Office for his Tidal launch event.

Blumin is most regarded in the NYC fashion industry for moving New York City Fashion Week events away from Bryant Park and Lincoln Centre into defunct warehouses and other oddball spaces, turning the spaces themselves into part of the show.

Perhaps most famously, Blumin turned a vacant NYC Post Office’s enormous mail-sorting room into what is now known as Skylight at Moynihan Station, a huge blank canvas with industrial touches favourited by designers like Prabal Gurung, Public School and Kanye West.

After 11 years of off-the-beaten-path street cred, Blumin’s High Line Terminal and The Post Office became NYFW’s official home base.

Blumin was quoted by Forbes in 2013 as saying:

Don’t focus only on your business. Keep your ears to the ground and be ready for constant reinvention. No sitting back on your fat laurels.
