On January 30th, Belgo Brasserie is hosting a special kind of event with Holt Renfrew and Sophia Models. In advance of the Glenbow’s annual Schmancy Gala happening on February 22nd, Belgo will be throwing a ‘Schmancy Style’ party to help inspire guests with some fun fashion and must-have looks for this year’s gala.
The Schmancy Style party will feature a fashion show and musical styling by DJ Mikey DaRoza, as well as a delicious sampling of Belgo cuisine. Eat, drink and be fashionable! This will be the second Schmancy Style fashion show, and the fashion focus will be on local leather designers in anticipation of the Glenbow’s winter exhibition, Worn to be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket. Belgo Brasserie is located at 501 – 8 Ave SW and tickets for Schmancy Style are $35. The event begins at 7pm.
Worn to be Wild runs from February 8th to May 4th, 2014. The exhibition explores one of the coolest and most iconic items in fashion; guests will learn all about how the leather jacket came to bear such cultural significance. There will be a collection of jackets on display, which have been worn by a variety of celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger or designed by the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier and Versace. You’ll also be able to view original art, motorcycles and mementos from the Harley Davidson Museum, the Second World War and the era of punk that dominated the 70s and 80s.
The annual Schmancy Gala is organized by the Glenbow’s Pivot Committee, an exciting art program unites the city’s future leaders for fresh and engaging art events. Members of Pivot have access to behind-the-scenes collections, visits to studios and the opportunity to mingle and network at some of Calgary’s hippest art establishments. This is a great way to support Calgary’s dynamic art scene while being part of the conversations that will shape our city in the future.
