When was the last time you booked a flight directly through an airline?
Exactly.
Flight aggregation services are now the standard option for finding the best combination of cheap, quick, and direct. Google Flights, until recently, was part of that standard.
And now they’ve exceeded it.
Google’s official blog announced a host of new features for its flight booking service yesterday to make travel even more exciting than it already is.
Our favourite? The answer for ‘I want to go literally anywhere to get the hell out of winter but don’t know where’.
In fact, Google’s research shows 54% of people have no idea where they want to go when they start planning a getaway. The new Google Flights allows you to search entire regions or countries, and displays the results according to what’s most desirable.
Which is where the next awesome revision comes in. The cheapest option isn’t always the most desirable, so flight routes are listed using a combination of price, schedule, number of stops, and on-board amenities.
Even then Google’s not done helping you. The service also chimes in with helpful tips to improve your journey, everything from suggestions to depart a day early and save big to alternative, cheaper nearby airports to consider landing at.
And sometimes, it’s best to just feel lucky.
