Inside Bacon Nation: Food Truck Finds Permanent Toronto Home

What would you do if you won the lottery?

That was the simple question that helped take Bacon Nation (170 Spadina Ave.) from a CNE food stand, to a food truck, to a new 40-seat restaurant in less than a year.

Andrew Motta was working as a banker when his brother Dan asked him if he’d keep going in every day if he won the lottery. The answer was simple: hell, no.

But would he keep doing the food stand at the CNE?

The resounding ‘yes’ was all the realization Andrew needed to quit his banking job so the brothers could get started on all things bacon.

And we do mean all things

Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner.
Bacon. Bacon. Bacon.

Start your morning off with a Drunken Stupor, a breakfast sandwich that comes with peameal bacon, double smoked bacon strips, cracked egg, beer battered onion rings, Jack Daniel’s bbq sauce, and is served on a Kaiser.

(The brothers like to joke that it’s been ‘mayoral approved’. We’ve italicized the reasons why to help you out.)

For lunch, settle into a pair of peameal bacon tacos. These delicious little snacks are served on a slice of peameal that acts as the shell and topped with mango, pico de gallo, BBQ pulled pork, bacon strips, and cilantro.

‘Cause who needs a bun when you’ve got bacon?

Oh, you do? Fine. Then try tackling The Notorious P.I.G., an all-bacon burger topped with bacon strips, peameal bacon, BBQ pulled pork, cheese, and onion straws that comes on a bacon bun (obviously).

Bacon Nation will be open seven days a week starting at 11am, and depending on the day of the week, closing anywhere between 10pm and ‘late’. And having their grand opening on July 1st isn’t a coincidence – Bacon Nation is just another way of saying Canada for these brothers.

The best part? You don’t have to win the lottery to eat here.

You just have to really love bacon.
